Job Description
Virginia Tech seeks to recruit an innovative cognitive and/or computational neuroscientist to its Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC (FBRI for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level.
The successful candidate must have the Ph.D. degree in a discipline related to cognitive or computational neuroscience and have completed a successful postdoctoral fellowship. Candidates with strong records of extramural support including fellowships and grants will be most competitive for this position. Applications from investigators using innovative contemporary approaches to study the neuroscientific basis of cognition in humans at any stage in the lifespan are welcomed. The faculty member will join 44 other faculty led teams at the FBRI and become a member of the research institutes highly successful Center for Human Neuroscience Research (CHNR). The position will be located at the FBRI at VTC on Virginia Techs health sciences campus in Roanoke Virginia. In addition to their position at the FBRI the faculty member will also have a tenuretrack appointment in a VT department that is best suited to their skills and interests most likely the Department of Psychology
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing community of scholars focused on research questions at the intersection of cognition computation and neuroscience at Virginia Tech. This reflects a major investment in recent faculty hires and research infrastructure at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC and in the Department of Psychology Department of Human Development and Family Sciences Department of Human Nutrition Foods and Exercise School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences and School of Neuroscience.
Research infrastructure includes the original 100000 square foot research institute that opened in 2010 as well as a new 139000 square foot research building http://fralinbiomed/buildingtour. The CHNR is immediately adjacent to the FBRIs Addiction Recovery Research Center Center for Health Behaviors Research and the Center for Neurobiology Research offering additional rich opportunities for collaborations. Facilities at the research institute include multiple research MRIs for human and animal research including high field MR guided PET and MR guided focused ultrasound optically pumped magnetometers (OPMMEG) multiple cellular/molecular imaging facilities including transcriptomics and genomics analysis as well as behavioral testing suites for animals and humans in addition to two human whole room calorimeters metabolic kitchen and dining areas for the study of human eating behaviors.
