Description

UTILITY TECHNICIAN

Bridgewater College seeks a fulltime Utility Technician beginning immediately. The Utility Technician is responsible for all ranges of carpentry and painting duties related to the projects assigned.

The position will generally work 40 hours per week Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. with occasional overtime and weekends. Will also be required to be on the OnCall Rotating Schedule.

JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret blueprints drawings and verbal instructions to determine
    measurements and specifications required to construct assemble repair
    and install wooden/masonry structures.
  • Install replace or repair glass in windows doors and partitions (to include glazing); ceiling and floor tile; hardware such as door closets locks hinges catches knobs and pulls; formica counter or tabletops. Cut mortises for locks and hinges and assist in hanging doors.
  • Estimate the amount and select types of lumber brick block paints and related
    supplies necessary to complete assigned projects. Account for materials
    purchased and used.
  • Sand se patch or repair surfaces and joints in preparation for
    finishing. Perform finishing tasks including painting varnishing or
    staining. Apply roof coatings and repair lead damage in roofs and
    ceilings.
  • Perform such typical operations as applying primer seal and finish coats
    to building exteriors (walls windows trim porches floors gutters
    downfalls); furniture (tables desks chairs cabinets shelves); and
    other areas and items as directed.
  • Perform minor patching and repairing of sheetrock plaster and woodsurfaces.
  • Install replace or repair minor fixtures including Venetian blinds shades
    drape/curtain rods window cords storm windows and screens.
  • Assist in procuring equipment and materials necessary for maintenanceprojects and minor construction. Load deliver unload and handlematerials. Operate shop vehicles necessary to complete these tasks.
  • Maintain carpentry and painting supply inventory by checking stock to determine
  • inventory level and anticipating needed supplies. Order and verify receipt
    of supplies. Ensure proper inventory of all assigned tools and equipment
    by securing the items properly.
  • Ensure construction quality by verifying trueness of structure with plumbbob carpenters level transit and other measurements.
  • Conserve carpentry resources by using equipment and supplies as neededto accomplish job results.
  • Assist contractors in locating and gaining access to facilities and structureswithin them.
  • Assist in supervision of contracted painters both during the academic year and summer months.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Complies with established regulatory safety and risk management
    guidelines.
  • Completes automated and manual work order assignments in a timely manner with appropriate documentation and followup.
  • May be required to work from ladders and power lifts.
  • Assist Facilities personnel in snow removal and setups for special events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years experience in general and finish carpentry/masonry required including demonstrated ability to operate hand and power saws planes drills and sanders.
  • Knowledge of materials used in carpenter/masonry work including lumber putties finishes stains paints plasters cement and related hardware.
  • Valid drivers license with good driving record required
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
