Job Description
The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university local state national and international levels.
Responsibilities
The duties of the Director of Sustainability are as follows:
Act as the Director of Sustainability in the Directors absence or at the Directors request
Work with various ASUN department to host yearround events with themes of sustainability
Work with any officers hosting events to help make the events as sustainable as possible
Program and promote events for nationally recognized holidays relevant to environmental preservation such as Public Lands Day Earth Day and Arbor Day
Perform any tasks pertaining to department marketing and promotion
Work on community projects involving the university and offcampus partners
Act as a standing member of the Sustainable Nevada Initiative Fund committee
Responsible to attend all ASUN retreats and trainings as decided by the Director of Sustainability and the Director of Executive Outreach
Proactively address environmental and sustainability concerns and policy issues in areas of Campus Life including but not limited to transportation food and dining facilities recycling and waste or any area the Director identifies as a current priority
Pursue various means of improving the campus transportation system that prioritizes walking biking public transportation and shared community
Work with the Director to develop the departmental strategic plan
Required Qualifications
Candidate must be a student at the University of Nevada Reno
During my tenure in this appointed position I agree to adhere to the following guidelines:
Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 credits
Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents
Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct
Meet all deadlines set forth
Attend all required meetings and training
Work scheduled hours
Properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time
Assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada
Behave in an ethical manner maintaining a high level of integrity
Other duties as called upon by my position
I understand that if I do not adhere to the items outlined in this agreement or what is stated in the ASUN Governing Documents my position may be subject to disciplinary action by the ASUN Judicial Council and/or the University of Nevada.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in fields related to environmental science ecology public policy sustainability agriculture or related natural sciences fields through course of study previous work experience or extracurricular activities
Motivation to develop and implement sustainability initiatives or programs including planning promotion and evaluation
Knowledge of sustainable practices in areas such as energy efficiency waste reduction water conservation transportation and food systems.
Willingness to inspire and motivate others to take action on sustainability issues including organizing campaigns events and educational initiatives
Understanding of social justice and equity considerations within sustainability efforts with a commitment to addressing environmental inequalities and promoting inclusivity
Excellent organization and project management skills in a teambased environment with multiple projects
Flexibility and adaptability within role; ability to time manage and prioritize tasks
Willingness to mentor an intern during the fall and spring semesters
Commitment to advancing the foundational pillars of the Home Means Nevada Platform through:
Partnering with the UNR Lake Tahoe campus to provide accessible outdoor opportunities that encourage student engagement with Nevadas natural beauty
Encouraging sustainable living practices in on and offcampus housing through partnerships focused on composting reducing waste and conserving energy and water
Hosting monthly campus farmers markets to increase student access to affordable local and ecofriendly goods
Organizing regular community cleanups in collaboration with student groups to foster stewardship and pride in campus and local environments
