Job Description

NOTICE OF VACANCY

January 14 2025

POSITION: IEP FACILITATOR PartTime

LOCATION: IEP Facilitator SMS

POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides leadership in the compliance of federally and state mandated Special Education procedures for students with disabilities within assigned building(s). This includes organizing and facilitating IEP Team meetings regularly monitoring IEP files providing professional development to general and special education staff on compliance/legal issues related to the IEP process assisting with case management and gathering information/data for investigation of cases and complaints as appropriate. Provides the Department of Special Education with requested information and data for assigned school(s). This position requires regular and ongoing collaboration with the special education schoolbased administrator(s) at assigned schools.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and/or Supervisor of Special Education & School Principal

EDUCATION CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE: (These are preemployment knowledge abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions. At the time of application the candidate must have:

  1. Masters degree or equivalent.
  2. Certified in special education or related field as defined by MSDE requirements.
  3. Minimum of three years experience teaching special education.

KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS: (These are preemployment knowledge abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions. At the time of application the candidate must have:

  1. Demonstrates leadership qualities.
  2. Knowledge and expertise in regard to the IEP process.
  3. Knowledge of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.
  4. Knowledge and experience administering and interpreting informal and formal assessment tools.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form with professional colleagues staff students parents and advocates.
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office; proficiency with Maryland Online IEP preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Develops schedule of IEP meetings for assigned school(s).
  2. Organizes and manages the IEP process ensuring adherence to all regulations and procedures.
  3. Facilitates IEP team meetings including the active engagement of all members.
  4. Reviews individual student records for completion and accuracy prior to an IEP meeting.
  5. Provides ongoing feedback to the Director of Special Education in regard to the effectiveness of the IEP facilitator program.
  6. Attends monthly IEP chairperson trainings and other special education professional development as mandated by the Special Education Department.
  7. Coordinates for assigned schools CCPS Department of Special Education/MSDEs compliance review activities as part of the Comprehensive Monitoring process.
  8. Submits ESY paperwork to the Department of Special Education and assists with the coordination of services for students at assigned school(s).
  9. Collaborates regularly with the special education schoolbased administrator and staff in regard to IEP team meetings and Special Education procedures and processes.
  10. Assists the special education schoolbased administrator with conveying procedures vision and priorities of the school community the Department of Special Education and CCPS.
  11. Provides technical assistance to staff and parents as appropriate on the IEP process and CCPS procedures.
  12. Advises Principal and Director of Special Education when issues of noncompliance are encountered.
  13. Provides technical assistance and professional development on the Maryland Online IEP program.
  14. Thinks concentrates and interacts positively with others.
  15. Comes to work promptly every day.
  16. Works flexible hours as necessary.
  17. Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  18. Travels from school to school as necessary.

OTHER JOB DUTIES: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned. Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal or the Director of Special Education.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: A Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of sedentary work using a computer monitor and mouse and will also include periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment. Requires moderate physical effort including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to fifty 50 pounds. Work may require physical as well as psychological confrontations with aggressive students. Special Education teachers assigned to programs serving students with physical disabilities may be required to lift or assist with lifting students at various times during the instructional day. Special Education teachers assigned to programs serving students with aggressive behaviors will be required to maintain nonviolent crisis intervention certification and may be required to use nonviolent crisis intervention.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten 10 month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. If selected for this position the candidate must enroll in direct deposit.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1 1986 who will have contact with school children must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I9 in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.

Applicants should also include contact information for organizations in which you have volunteered coached mentor tutored or otherwise had direct contact with minors.
