The Data Science and Analytics Department within Roche Pharma Development in Basel is dedicated to innovating and improving methods for clinical trial analyses. Our team works on various projects that aim to enhance the understanding and application of data science in the pharmaceutical industry. We are looking for an intern for 6 months to work on our project which will contribute to the important topic of subgroup analyses in randomized clinical trials.

The opportunity

Subgroup analyses investigate the homogeneity of treatment effect estimates in subgroups which requires careful interpretation due to the smaller sample size of subgroups and the large number of investigated subgroups. To address these challenges Bayesian shrinkage methods have been proposed. Our team has developed a novel approach to Bayesian shrinkage estimation for overlapping subgroups and a corresponding R package. In this project you will:

  • Extend the existing R package to support additional shrinkage estimators and endpoint types.

  • Perform a comprehensive methods comparison study of standard and shrinkagebased subgroup treatment effect estimators.

  • Collaborate with team members to design and execute research activities.

  • Analyze and interpret data related to subgroup analyses.

  • Document and present findings in a clear and concise manner.

Who you are

  • MSc student in statistics or biostatistics (or a closely related field).

  • Proficiency in R programming.

  • Experience with Bayesian methods and building R packages is desirable.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.

  • Effective communication skills for documenting and presenting research findings.

For NonEU/ NonEFTA citizens: Due to regulations you must submit a certificate issued by your university stating that an Internship is mandatory for your studies. Without this document the application cannot be considered.
