Job Description

Governance Officer

  • Employment Type: Full Time 35 hours per week)
  • Duration: Continuing
  • Remuneration: Level 6/7 $100354 $119132 (depending on experience) 17 super leave loading
  • Location: Kensington NSW (hybrid)

Why your Role Matters:

The Governance Officer provides assistance with governance support for a portfolio of university committees including providing advice to relevant stakeholders on governance matters. They are also responsible for providing project support on governance specific projects.

The Governance Officer is expected to make an active contribution to the strategic and operational plans policies and procedures of the Governance team.

The Governance Officer reports to the Senior Manager Governance. The position will have significant working relationships with team members in Governance Legal and Compliance members of the executive committees and the wider university community.

Responsibilities:

Meeting Management

  • Collate prepare and distribute agendas and documentation for committees.
  • Attend meetings prepare minutes and take appropriate action to enable the timely dissemination of meeting outcomes.
  • Liaise with committee members senior management and other university stakeholders to facilitate the effective operation of committees including establishing meeting schedules and dates.
  • Maintain and develop governing documents required for the effective management and operation of committees including constitutions terms of reference and policy documents.
  • Maintain accurate records of committee operations including memberships and meetings in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Governance Advice on Portfolio Committees

  • Use judgment and initiative to resolve complex or sensitive issues arising in connection with committee operations and other compliance activities.
  • Provide authoritative governance advice on the Universitys governance obligations including compliance with the Corporations Act Higher Education Standards Framework University Rules and Bylaws policies procedures and systems.
  • Offer expert guidance on governance best practices across the university sector and developments in corporate governance.
  • Identify research and resolve governance issues related to committee operations drafting briefing notes executive summaries reports and other governancerelated documents.

Governance Development and Project Management

  • Plan organise and manage Governance projects including reviewing and improving processes participating in trials implementing changes and overseeing the full project lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic advice regarding the units governance and compliance responsibilities.

Policy Development

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the Universitys policy framework including drafting policies and improving decisionmaking processes.

Skills and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent work experience or an equivalent combination of knowledge training and experience.
  • Minimum of two years experience working with committees and a passion for embracing technology to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of information organisation and retrieval. Ability to research issues appropriately and report findings accurately both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of confidentiality diplomacy and discretion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to enable professional interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Good written skills and demonstrated ability to create accurate records of meetings with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and resolve conflicting priorities; ability to take responsibility for own work and to appropriately refer problems.
