Enterprise Research Infrastructure & Services (ERIShttp://)supports the Research IT and informatics needs within Massachusetts GeneralHospital (MGH) Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH) and other teaching hospitalsof Harvard Medical School. You will be a key member of the team and willhave a range of responsibilities including: effective server and OSinstallation/configuration operation and troubleshooting for physicalvirtual and HPC cluster systems. You will participate in technicalresearch and development with the teams Cloud Services Technical Architect andHPC systems manager to enable continued innovation within the infrastructureusing automation deployment technologies. You will specifically beresponsible for automated deployment and enforcement of configuration of serversystems and related networking infrastructure using Puppet adhere toorganizational standards follow security guidelines and provide researchdepartments and investigators with appropriate resources needed for theirneeds. You may be a key point of contact for specific supported include Linux and Windows physical and cloudbased serversHPC clusters and storage systems. OnCall tier 2 and 3 technical supportis required.

ServerAdministration: Manage and administer production servers used by investigatorsand Research Centers: including deployment and support monitoring systemperformance networking data storage and backup/restore needs maintainabilityand availability.

Working withthe High Performance Technical Computing and cloud computing teams provideassistance in support/installation/configuration of servers/storage assistwith user access and systems monitoring.

Deployment:work alongside ERIS hardware team members to install systems and provisionnetwork using automated deployment tools (Puppet/Chef Spacewalk KickstartCobbler etc..

Responsiblefor tier 1 monitoring of servers/systems and storage space usage: providebreak/fix support setup/installation support and escalation will include working with various hardware and software vendors or withopensource community as well as ERIS service owners.

Analyzesmonitoring results: recommend and implement changes to improve performanceprocessing and utilization of HPC Linux servers and highspeed networking.

Technical andCustomer Support:Work with ERIS scientific support specialists and Servicemanagers to provide support to scientific researchers who use a broad spectrumof applications from diverse fields (genetics epidemiology *omics basicscience natural language processing and high resolution imaging).

Develop andmaintain system documentation using wiki and knowledge management tools.

Create andclose work orders for tasks using established standards in ServiceNow

Perform otherduties as required by the situation and circumstances

Occasionallylift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and possiblesignificant fieldwork around the BWH / MGH campuses and satellite buildings.

Offhoursoncall support is required.

BA/BS degreerequired or equivalent combination of skills/experience.

5 years ofexperience required in technical support within a large networked computingenvironment.

Must becapable of contributing within a team exhibit a high level of initiative andhave an eagerness to learn new technologies.

Demonstratedability in providing systems administration server troubleshooting to acommunity with diverse computing needs.

Candidate mustpossess advanced knowledge and understanding of Linux and Windows serverconfigurations including networking (RHEL CentOS or equivalent).

Experience inopensource automation systems (Puppet/Chef Spacewalk Kickstart Cobbleretc) strongly preferred. AWS experience a plus.

Experienceconfiguring and troubleshooting ethernet networks including TCP UDP LACP andSTP.

Knowledge andunderstanding of security and monitoring software packages including but notlimited to O/S network application (Nagios Argus Ganglia) MS technologiesintrusion detection.

Experience ina higher education or agile rapid support environment desirable
