Clinical Laboratory Scientist Lead

A specialist position as Lead in the Clinical Laboratory at Ambry Genetics. This position is responsible for daytoday oversight of daily sample flow in lab ensures sample quality data & routine metrics monitoring The Lead is required to be always on site to perform testing. This position requires a Clinical Laboratory Scientist license from the California Department of Public Health.

Essential Functions:

• Conducts clinical molecular genetic testing for one or multiple workflows and techniques with minimal supervision of the onsite Laboratory Supervisor and Manager and in accordance with the laboratorys procedures for specimen handling and processing subjective and/or complex data analyses reporting (when applicable) and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Assists laboratory supervisors with sample coordination with huddles handoffs between shifts and SAP production planning activities.
• Provide signature as needed to demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Adheres to and reviews the laboratorys quality control policies with emphasis on documentation of all quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities including instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed and elemental machines monitoring. As a subject matter expert able to provide input on QC/QA documentation including standard operating procedures and work instructions quality event reports (QER) and corrective action/ preventative action (CAPA) plans. Assists with gathering and pulling test system metrics for quality management system (QMS) review.
• Follow the laboratorys established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and can immediately perform advance and indepth troubleshooting independently and escalate to Supervisors Managers and Technical Supervisors.
• Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications including initiating and writing QERs.
• Maintain SME satisfactorily complete training and competency on all tasks performed including training on any instrumentation. Also able to administer and manage the training and competency for team members as delegated by Supervisor.
• Involved in performing test method validation and verification runs for accuracy and precision. As a subject matter expert attend core team meetings and provide input for product development in absence of the Manager or Supervisor.
• Responsible for adhering to laboratory policies for personal protective equipment (PPE) hazardous waste disposal and IT security and enforcing laboratory policies in absence of laboratory supervisor.
• Responsible for laboratory safety when lab supervisors and managers are absent.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• A bachelors degree in a chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist license from the California Department of Public Health. Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) preferred
• Technical knowledge of laboratory testing and terminology is required. Capable of excelling within a team environment. Capable of accomplishing workload.
• Ability to communicate effectively attention to detail ability to cross reference information ability to prioritize work computer skills working knowledge of standard office equipment (computers printers fax machines phone systems office software and internet).
• Flexibility regarding job assignments.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Certificates Licenses Registrations: Responsible in maintaining the required certificates licenses and/or registrations that are required for the position.
• Ability to drive change be a strategic thinker and planner prioritize be innovative delegate and influence. Must have selfawareness courage and thoughtfulness to provide coaching and feedback to direct reports. Capable of being a role model and motivating a group to act towards common goals.
• This position is open to CLS II or CLS III with 3 years prior work experience in a laboratory certified under CLIA (usually in the U.S..
• 3 year work experience can include time spent as a CLSII and CLSIII
