Cuyamaca College seeks talented and dedicated candidates who share our strategic vision focused on student success social justice equity and antiracism. We especially seek candidates with a high level of cultural competence and who have successfully worked with faculty staff and students from a variety of backgrounds.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction the Dean of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences provides visionary leadership in support of teaching and learning for our students. This position leads and supports the delivery of instruction and the delivery of career and life skills in the following areas: Anthropology Arabic Aramaic American Sign Language Art Communication English English as a Second Language Ethnic Studies Gender Studies Kumeyaay Studies History Humanities Music Philosophy Psychology Political Science Religious Studies Sociology Social Work Spanish and Theatre Arts.
Administrators may be assigned responsibility for a combination of day evening and weekend programs oncampus and off site. Each instructional Dean assumes responsibility for some collegewide functions and is responsible for grants management in their areas. Managers will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their job description.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: Masters degree from an accredited institution plus five years of achievement in management supervision or leadership programs departments or divisions within an institution of higher education with emphasis in one or more of the areas to which the Dean position is assigned.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to advance the Colleges vision mission and values in the Arts Humanities and Social Sciences programs and services and within the institution.
Demonstrated commitment to and support of diversity equity inclusion antiracism and accessibility in a comprehensive studentcentered environment that facilitates student learning and success.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of students from diverse academic socioeconomic cultural racial and ethnic backgrounds; students who are differently abled and students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA community.
Ability to advance the Colleges strategic goals related to access success retention eliminating equity gaps and increasing equity in hiring in the Arts Humanities and Social Sciences programs and within the institution.
Provides the administration direction planning and coordination of instructional disciplines and departments in accordance with legal requirements district policies and effective instructional principles and practices.
Ability to establish overall goals objectives and plans; prepare reports and presentations; initiate and participate in overall program review and planning including learning outcome development and assessment communicate statutes district and college policies and philosophies to Arts Humanities and Social Sciences staff.
Ability to support Arts Humanities and Social Sciences faculty in curriculum planning and development; evaluate and recommend instructional materials equipment and facilities.
Ability to direct the recruitment selection assignment supervision and evaluation of instructional personnel and classified staff. Provides leadership with orientations and inservice education for the professional development of program faculty and staff.
Demonstrated ability developing course schedules to meet strategic enrollment planning principles and goals.
Experience coordinating program review and planning curriculum development and outcomes assessment.
Ability to plan recommend and implement multiple budgets for assigned areas; upon expenditure variations take necessary actions to assure compliance with budget limitations and established fiscal policies.
Demonstrated experience participating in college and district governance through councils committees workgroups and taskforces.
Ability to facilitate communication and understanding of perspectives among faculty staff students and the community within the framework of a multicollege district as well as the resolution of student instructor and staff conflicts.
Ability to consistently perform duties with concern courtesy and respect for others; employ a team approach through collaboration and empowerment of staff; exhibit creativity and flexibility in a time of continuing change; and to seek solutions using effective problemsolving techniques.
Demonstrated effective oral written and interpersonal communication skills.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to interpret articulate and implement pertinent state and federal laws and regulations concerning community colleges including Education Code Title 5 and other administrative regulations.
Ability to advocate for and implement instructional support services and programs including dual enrollment and learning communities (such as Umoja and Puente) that promote student success and completion of their educational goals.
Ability to successfully delegate ensure adherence to College and District policies practices and procedures and hold others responsible while instilling confidence among the faculty and staff.
Experience writing successful grant applications and experience with resource management.
