Why the role matters
The Deputy Faculty Executive Director is a pivotal leadership role within the UNSW Business School which directly contributes to strategic development and leading the operational management of the Faculty.
This key role is crucial for the Facultys success as it oversees the implementation of strategic plans manages essential processes and ensures the efficient delivery of operational services. A key priority for the successful candidate is to support the Faculty in achieving its academic research teaching and learning objectives.
Reporting to the Faculty Executive Director this position has 10 direct reports including Faculty School Managers Administrators and Receptionists. It also manages relationships with key partners in IT Estate Management Safety HR Finance and Student Services while maintaining essential connections with the Senior Management Team Heads of School UNSW peers and other FEDs and Deputy FEDs.
This hybrid role requires a minimum of 3 days on campus each week with the potential for up to 5 days on site depending on weekly needs. Flexibility and agility are essential as the specific days on campus will vary requiring the ability to adapt to dynamic work schedules.
Accountabilities
Specific accountabilities for this role are focused on four key areas:
Strategy
Proactively contribute to the formulation and refinement of the Facultys strategic plan in partnership with the Dean the Faculty Executive Director and senior colleagues to provide strategic advice.
Work with the Faculty Executive Director and senior colleagues to operationalise the Facultys and UNSW strategic plan including the development of plans which outline objectives targets and Facultys Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) to ensure measurable outcomes and continuous alignment with institutional priorities.
Operations
Ensure accurate operational reporting and advice is provided to leaders within the of Faculty to facilitate decision making
Broker resources and services from central and embedded functions to ensure the Facultys Key Performance Indicators are achieved including budget.
Leadership
Initiate and lead change projects aimed at improving the Facultys outcomes and achieving operational efficiencies.
Benchmark internally and externally and build collaborative relationships to stretch and expand opportunities for the Faculty and UNSW.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
Oversee compliance and quality assurance management consistent with requirements under the Universitys Risk Management Framework including WHS.
Who you are
Skills and Experience required for this position (but not limited to):
Tertiary qualifications with extensive relevant senior management experience in business administration or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience gained through any other combination of education training and/or experience.
An understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector nationally and internationally and how these translate to the practical operational management requirements of a large scale research active student focused and internationally competitive academic endeavour.
Extensive experience in people leadership development engagement and management with the demonstrated skills to motivate inspire and mobilise diverse teams to create a positive workplace culture and deliver quality outcomes.
Excellent consultation influencing communication negotiation and networking skills to achieve organisational outcomes particularly in an environment where services are provided by a service provider or function.
Demonstrated commercial acumen and a track record in setting and managing large scale budgets meeting financial targets and managing for financial sustainability.
Demonstrated experience in leading change to deliver successful outcomes.
