Amazon Robotics is seeking a selfdriven enthusiastic individual to join the Failure Analysis (FA) Team at Amazon Robotics (AR) in Westborough MA. The team is responsible for nondestructive and destructive failure analysis (FA) on AR products and conducting advanced material characterization for guiding design and process changes. The hardware test team is a multidisciplinary environment of mechanical/electrical/software/quality engineers and technicians dedicated to advancing the knowledge of robotics and how millions of customer orders are fulfilled every day.
The test engineer is responsible for the creation of test programs plans and methods for subsystem verification tests and complete system verification and validation tests to support new technology and product development programs.
The hardware test engineer will work with hardware development engineers technical operations (manufacturing engineering) and solutions engineering to define execute and report on verification and validation tests.
Key job responsibilities
* Perform handson root cause analysis (RCA) and indepth failure characterizations using advanced analytical tools. In addition you will be recommending corrective actions and conveying results to the multifunctional team as well as upper management.
* Work with HW Reliability Supplier Quality Manufacturing engineering and Design teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures originating in product development production and in the field.
* Maintain RCA repository database write FA reports and deliver presentations for customer or internal use that elucidate the root cause of failure and may suggest possible solutions.
* Demonstrate competence with the operation and application of standard FA tools and lab equipment. Evaluate and introduce new equipment and techniques to the FA flow.
* Collaborate with test engineering and design team for DOE planning and
* Validate and verify supplier and vendor FA
* Develop FA SOPs and troubleshooting procedures/guidelines
* Participate in process improvement initiatives
* Help manage and train FA Engineers and Technicians daily task and projects
* Lab organization and detailed documentation for effective FA reports

About the team
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Must have handson experience with materials sample preparation and understanding of a variety of materials characterization techniques (SEM FTIR CT/XRay XRF analyzer profilometers etc.. and fundamental FA methodology.
Handson experience in material characterization of metal polymer composites etc.
Creating comprehensive technical reports with crisp and concise data for presenting to crossfunctional teams
Excellent verbal and written communications. Ability to communicate complex technical information in a simple concise manner
Enjoys working in a fastpaced environment
Be able to work in a lab setting analyzing failures
Masters or PHD in materials science or Metallurgical Engineering
5 years of proven experience in a FA
Prior experience in a FA role using FA laboratory equipment such as: optical digital microscopes probes and Xray systems.
Metallurgy knowledge (i.e. heat treatment grain size micro/macrostructure case depth microhardness Rockwell hardness)
Understanding of the failures in sensors used in robotic automation at the material and system level.
Experience with and knowledge of a broad array of metals (carbon steel alloy steel stainless steel copper alloys aluminum alloys etc. polymers electronic packaging
