LOCATION/DIVISION SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Our PPD Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists industry thought leaders and therapeutic experts. GCL (Global Central Lab)
Location: Highland Heights Kentucky

Shift: TuesdaySaturday 8AM4:30PM ET


DISCOVER IMPACTFUL WORK:

Oversees the quality and productivity of daily operations. Interacts with internal departments and finds opportunities for process and efficiency improvements. Trains and schedules operations personnel. Prepares process documents and acts as a backup to management when needed. Performs and/or delegates all activities vital to ensure sample management deliverables are met.


A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Creates work schedules and assignments ensures policies and procedures are accurate trains staff and assesses competence participates in staff hiring corrective action evaluation and career progression.

  • Responsible for sample accessioning routing storage shipment deidentification relabeling discard destruction and aliquoting.

  • Reviews and recommends process improvement and efficiency gains. Recommends IT enhancements. Authors reviews and implements procedural documents. Defines and monitors performance metrics for quality and productivity.

  • Ensures that contracted maintenance and qualification of environmentally controlled units (ECU) or equipment used to prepare or store specimens is performed. Monitors ECU trending reports to prevent equipment failure ensures proper call response process and teams are in place to respond to ECU failures afterhours.

  • Investigates and resolves problems with samples or shipments and in Process Deviation Reports/CAPA. Participates in audits and general capabilities department tours. Responds to environmental unit alarms and participate in oncall responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages staff which may include interviewing and selection job descriptionpreparation professional development goal setting performance managementbehavioral and technical coaching and mentoring employee counseling andseparations.

  • Approves courses of action on salary administration hiring
    corrective action and terminations. Reviews and approves time records expensereports requests for leave and overtime.

  • Promotes all aspects of PPD EqualEmployment Opportunity policy and Affirmative Action Plan.

  • Ensures equipment is maintained as required per manufacturer; coordinates andreviews validation and maintenance procedures. Ensures sample chain ofcustody and business continuity objectives are met.

  • Oversees the following core tasks for productivity and quality sampleregistration requisition form entry sample routing data verification samplestorage sample shipments to clients and third party labs sample aliquotingsample de identification sample destruction and other tasks as required basedon business need.

  • Provides basic support for IT processes.

  • Provides technical interpretation of study protocol requirements in relationship tosample handling storage and disposition

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree in Scientific field(Medical Technology Biology Chemistry etc)

  • 1 year of leadership responsibility

  • Previous experience in sample management that provides the knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 35 years).

In some cases an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education trainingand/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet therequirements of the role.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Good working knowledge of scientific or clinical methods

  • Good problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multitasls

  • Strong verbal written presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to write technical documents such as SOPs working instructions and guidelines

  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office tools and enterprise applications

  • Leadership abilities

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

  • Work is performed in an office and/or a laboratory and/or a clinical environment with exposure toelectrical equipment.

  • Occasionally drives to site or client locations occasionally travels within the United States.

  • Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Rare exposure to skin
    and lung irritants radiation toxic materials and hazardous waste.

  • Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear garments and gloves.

  • Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures on rare occasions.

  • Frequently stationary for 68 hours per day.

  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast simple repeated movementsof the fingers hands and wrists.

  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptopcomputer with a maximum lift of 1520 lbs.

  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both inhouse and offtheshelf.

  • Ability to communicate moderately complex information and ideas so others will understand; with theability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words andsentences.

  • Frequently interacts with others relates sensitive information to diverse groups.

  • Ability to apply basic principles to solve conceptual issues.

  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions
    with little predictability as to the occurrence.

  • Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multitask.
