Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting daytoday continuous patient safety improvement for Roper St. Francis Healthcare. The Patient Safety Specialist collaborates with key stakeholders to optimize quality and patient safety culture across the healthcare system. The Specialist proficiently facilitates patient safety efforts and coaches others in the development of patient safety improvement capabilities with emphasis on root cause identification and process redesign and measurement providing direction to departments on the planning of a systematic organizationwide approach to continuous patient safety improvement with the goals of zero harm and Just Culture.
Essential Job Functions
Assists with the coordination of the annual analysis and implementation of the organizations Patient Safety Plan.
Prepares Quality reports scorecards and presentations.
Provides project management and overall facilitation for prioritizing and advocating patient safety initiatives at the facility and unit level. Provides ongoing updates to project champions and stakeholders. Coordinates the departmental Patient Safety meetings analyzes trends of performance metrics. Leads casual analyses such as root cause analyses and compact cause analyses. Identifies opportunities for improvement develops and maintains action plans. Measures success of these action plans and creates the records and followup metrics for each activity; reassesses approach to maximize success.
Assists leadership in defining key performance indicators and developing measurement tools to evaluate quality improvements. Coordinates patient safety culture assessment efforts.
Supports regulatory compliance issues related to patient safety sentinel event alerts National Patient Safety goals etc.
Coordinates the FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) process and other patient safety tools such as patient safety risk assessments when appropriate.
Reports events to our organizations Patient Safety Organization on an ongoing basis.
Consults with and trains staff to implement monitoring and measurement tools and data analysis techniques.

Licensing/Certification
Clinical or professional licensure if applicable.
Primary Source Verification (if applicable): Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) to be obtained within 3 years if not already earned
Education
Bachelors degree required)
Masters Degree (preferred)
Work Experience
2 years of work experience in healthcare quality safety or process improvement; or a licensed patient care professional (RN Respiratory Therapist Physical Therapist etc. with 2 years of direct patient care experience and demonstrated knowledge of patient safety practices. (required)
