The Team
The Capital Supply Vertical is the fuel that powers Upstarts AI based lending operations. Spread across five dynamic high performance teams; Capital Supply is in charge of onboarding and maintaining Capital Supply relations with both our Lending Partners and Investors. We provide both our internal and external business partners with reports forecasting financial reporting and help optimize the connection between our customer base and the funding suppliers.
As a Principal Engineer at Upstart on the Capital Supply team you will collaborate with all parts of the Upstart business and engineering including Machine Learning Data Engineering Product Management Product Design Platform Servicing Lending Partnerships and Auto. The role will report directly to a head of Capital Market Engineering and work closely with all five of the Capital Supply product engineering teams. Your goal is to autonomously identify and prioritize high impact work that will ultimately make the Capital Supply Vertical successful.
How youll make an impact:
- Help define the Capital Supply engineerings longer term technical roadmap ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Guide the architectural evolution of Capital Supply systems with an emphasis on systems shared across the Capital Market engineering teams
- Uncover and drive alignment across complex technical requirements designs tradeoffs influencing product direction
- Proactively evaluate prototype and roll out new technologies/frameworks to help cultivate a culture of innovation
- Partner with product leaders to shape product direction and drive business impact across all Capital Supply products
- Lead from the front while mentoring and developing technical leaders
- Identify and prioritize high leverage and impactful opportunities
What were looking for:
- Minimum requirements:
- 10 years software engineering experience
- Strong technical and software engineering fundamentals including a demonstrated ability to build and own largescale highly available consumer products
- Ability to explain complex business and technical concepts to all audiences
- Experience leading large crossteam initiatives at companies that have gone through periods of rapid business or organizational growth
- Track record of successfully mentoring and developing technical leaders
- Preferred qualifications:
- Has defined and executed on longer term (multiquarter technological visions or strategies for multiteam organizations
- Has driven initiatives of significant depth or breadth with demonstrated results in engineering process technology platforms or overall productivity of others
- Ability to identify gaps in organizational knowledge tools and practices and produce and execute on plans to address those gaps
- Ability to influence and lead without direct authority
- Strong product and analytical mindset that allows you to think in terms of ROI risk and trade offs
Position Location This role is available in the following locations: Remote San Mateo Columbus Austin
Time Zone Requirements This team operates across all U.S. time zones.
Travel Requirements As a digital first company the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time inperson collaborating via regular onsites. The inperson sessions cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 24 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic locationwith our digital first philosophy Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by jobrelated skills experience and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
