Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics the Assistant Baseball Coach will assist the head coach in recruiting qualified studentathletes to the program instruct and develop the studentathlete in the sport of baseball game preparation and community involvement. Instruction should include but not limited to the rules strategies and techniques relating to practice and competition in this sport. The assistant coach provides administrative support to the Colleges NCAA Division III program. The assistant coach will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coaching Instruction and Team Administration 60

  • Assist the head coach with oneonone or teach instruction on related skill development and critique rules technologies and strategies;
  • Assist the head coach to organize and conduct practices during the traditional season (as defined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association) for the sport. Nontraditional (or out of season) season practices may be required;
  • Assist the head coach to serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in and outofseason competition;
  • Assist the head coach in management of operational budget issues: Participate in uniform and equipment purchase process; help plan and coordinate team travel under the supervision of Director of Athletics Office; help develop and implement fundraising strategies;
  • Assist the head coach to complete inand offseason scheduling for the program. Work within NCAA guidelines regarding start of season dates of competition and end of season;
  • Must be able to throw BP and hit Fugos;
  • Must be able to work flexible times (early mornings evenings and weekends);
  • Represent the Department of Athletics at all oncampus Admission Open Houses and/or other predetermined events;
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Recruiting 40

  • Assist the head coach in developing a recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as preapproved by the Director of Athletics.
  • Work with the Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective studentathletes both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College. Included are offcampus contacts and evaluations as well as serving as College representative during oncampus prospect visits.
  • Must be able to attend recruiting events throughout the year.

To perform this job successfully the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree required and proven successful coaching with 23 years experience preferred preferably at the collegiate level.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Proven successful coaching;
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations;
  • Experience working with male studentathletes;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required;
  • Experience with modern technology and video analysis;
  • Knowledge of Rapsodo.

  • Selfstarter on projects;

  • Responsiveness to emails;
  • Communication skills with colleagues and athletes.

Technology Skills

Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint) email and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organizationwide information systems and departmentspecific software applications.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to develop marketing or promotion materials. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students parents or others.

Mathematical Skills

Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking projections goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make costeffective decisions regarding programs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Compensation

The compensation for this position consists of a $2250 stipend for the Spring 2025 semester. This temporary position is not benefitseligible except for paid Maryland sick leave. Learn more about Hood College.
