The Senior Metallurgist is a specialized role responsible for providing metallurgical expertise and guidance in materials science and engineering projects. This position involves conducting research developing metallurgical processes analyzing materials and collaborating with crossfunctional teams to ensure the successful implementation of metallurgical strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investigate opportunities for improving existing materials processes equipment and technology for attaining organizational cost reduction and continuous improvements goals.
- Carry out Research and Development programs in conjunction with supervision on new materials and/or component shapes which may eventually become production parts.
- Develop technologically advanced products that enhance product performance.
- Participate in Design Reviews to identify potential material issues propose solutions and monitor the corrective action.
- Define and perform prototype process trials materials analysis and properties characterization.
- Analysis and results interpretation of samples analyzed through the laboratory including mechanical chemical metallographic and corrosion.
- Perform rigorous process and product failure analysis and do research and development work on products and processes.
Other Duties
Technical Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical reports research papers and documentation summarizing experimental results analyses and recommendations. Present findings and project updates to internal stakeholders customers.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Indepth knowledge of metallurgical principles materials characterization techniques and metallurgical processes.
- Proficiency in utilizing metallurgical laboratory equipment and software tools for analysis such as microscopy spectroscopy SEM EDS mechanical testing and thermal analysis.
- Strong understanding of quality control methodologies statistical analysis and process improvement techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and nontechnicalstakeholders.
Educational/Certification Requirement:
- MSc degree or higher in in Material Science/Engineering Metallurgy or another technically related discipline.
Experience Requirement:
- 15 years of progressive experience in new material development manufacturing engineering advanced manufacturing process engineering tooling.
- Metallurgy Experience of Heat Treatment Forging Casting and properties of a wide range of steels nickel based super alloys titanium alloys and other alloys.
- 3D printing experience is preferred.
- Significant professional experience in metallurgical research development and process optimization preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Experience in failure analysis root cause investigation and problemsolving methodologies related to metallurgical failures.
