TITLE: SubstituteNonCDL Driver
REPORTS TO: Manager of Transportation
POSITION SUMMARY:
Operates school vans and cars (vehicles) safely under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to: Fog rain hail sleet snow and ice. Transports students and other authorized persons on regular and special programs to and from school. NonCDL drivers may be allowed to drive for field extracurricular and other activity trips as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement contract language as well as by the school district officials.
Preferred Education and Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Washington State drivers license;
- Five 5 years of experience as a licensed driver
- Obtain and maintain CPR and first aid qualifications
- Successfully meet all applicable requirements of WAC 392144
- Successful completion of District Training Course for NonCDL Drivers
Special Requirements
- Valid First Aid/CPR card
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
- I9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)
- Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Successfully meet all requirements of Chapter 18020 (drug disclosure fingerprinting)
- Have an excellent driving record
- Fiveyear complete driving abstract
- Physically able to drive and perform all duties related to school bus driving
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- The ability to successfully communicate with students parents district staff members and other concerned individuals regarding all aspects of their jobrelated activities
- Sufficient strength and agility to:
- Assist students when necessary while entering or exiting a school vehicle through the appropriate passenger door
- Provide assistance to students in evacuating the vehicle during any accident or other emergency situation
- Install tire chains and perform all pretrip inspections as required by district practice
- Operate all hand and foot controls that are necessary for the safe operation of the vehicle
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability to tolerate exposure to fuel vehicle fumes and moderate to loud vehicle and passenger noises
- Operates school vehicles in all types of weather conditions
- Requires ability to squat bend reach and ascend and descend steps safely
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to federal and state laws and district regulations policies procedures and practices
- Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse harassment intimidation bullying boundary invasions fights substance abuse etc.
- Abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement
- Observe strict confidentiality regarding student information
- Maintain regular punctual attendance
- Maintain updated and current route sheets and student lists
- Maintain order on the vehicle while performing normal driving duties and functions
- Maintains order and adheres to safety rules when loading and unloading pupils
- Exercises responsible leadership at all times.
- Install service or replace school vehicle equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers highway warning kits first aid and body fluid clean up kits snow chains etc.
- Perform required operational and safety inspections of the school vehicle and all related equipment
- Clean the interior of the vehicle add fuel when required clean vehicle exterior as required
- Work effectively with a group of students transported together of different grade levels abilities or program placement
- Legible and accurate completion of all forms; time sheets trip requests route studies student counts Bus Conduct forms accident reports and other clerical type activities as may be required
- Dress appropriately and wear proper foot protection outlined in the OSPI Bus Driver Handbook for the job
- Comply with state laws and local regulations pertaining to operation of school vehicles
- Perform related duties which are consistent with this job description and the employees assignment
- Check mailbox bulletin boards electronic message screens and doors for messages prior to leaving transportation
- Accept directions and instructions regarding safe driving procedures as required to fulfill functions and responsibilities
- May be required to operate wheelchair lift and assist students loading and unloading from the school vehicle if it is equipped with a lift
- Relate effectively with passengers parents staff and general public in a multicultural and multiracial community
- Perform other school Non CDL driverrelated duties as directed by local school district policies
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
This position is that of a NonCDL driver and is represented by Pubic School Employees collective bargaining unit.
Hours for this position to be determined by the Manager of Transportation. Salary and benefits are determined as per the collective bargaining agreement.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
Probationary period will be 90 days. Performance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
