GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards as well as a safe supportive working environment for our employees.

We are now seeking Correctional Officers for the Wyoming Womens Center in Lusk Wyoming! The Wyoming Womens Center (WWC) was established in 1981. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates. WWC provides programming vocational recreational and educational programs to allow the WDOC to reduce recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention. This position is essential for maintaining the institutions safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position receiving the 20year retirement and state benefits package.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

To maintain institutional safety standards the position requires the following:
  • Enforcement of rules and regulations.
  • Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.
  • Modeling appropriate prosocial behavior.
  • Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate prosocial behavior.
  • Assisting in a variety of searches including checking for contraband items.
  • Observing daily inmate living programming work areas and the perimeter fence line reporting security violations.
  • Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
  • Assuming duties of housing control centers central control centers and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements.
  • Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
  • Assisting in restraining unruly inmates utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
  • Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries including inter and intrastate predetermined destinations.
  • Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates.
  • Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


**REQUIRED: All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment.
**Must be at least 18 years of age
**Must bea U.S. Citizen
**Must havea valid drivers license
**Must not havea felony or domestic violence conviction.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of security measures techniques and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
01 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
None

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check medical and psychological evaluation physical fitness exam urinalysis drug screen and other preemployment testing prior to appointment
  • Candidates must have the: ability to work overtime as required; and ability to work on any shift holidays and weekends.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: NonExempt
  • All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment.
  • The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a DrugFree Workplace. Per WDOC policy all staff are subject to drug testing while employed by WDOC. Successful applicants for employment must pass a background/reference check medical evaluation and urinalysis drug test before appointment.
