POSITION SUMMARY
All employees are expected to perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of the organization. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most costeffective manner. This position is assigned responsibility to assist the Emergency Department Physicians and Nurses with routine operation of the Emergency Department. Responsibility includes knowledge of activities that will assure safe and effective patient care within the defined job functions and responsibilities. The Emergency Medical Technician is accountable to his/her Clinical Unit Supervisor Staff Nurses on duty Department Manager Administrative Director and Medical Director of the Emergency Department for achievement of the above functions and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides patient care in accordance with the hospitals expectations the Emergency Department Standards and within their scope of practice.
- Communicates and functions effectively with patients and families in stressful situations.
- Assists in explanation and documents after care instructions to patients tailored to their individual needs.
- Maintains adequate levels of supplies and functioning of equipment and demonstrates accountability of all equipment.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Shows initiative and good judgment.
- Actively participates to support the Emergency Department and keeps current on scope of practice annual certifications policies and procedures and departmental changes.
- Utilizes team player skills to assist in efficient patient care activities and flow.
- Sets the patient up to be seen immediately by the physician. Assist in providing discharge instructions and follow up appointments for the patient.
- Notifies the employer of the care provided the diagnosis and the expected plan of care as well as the return to work status.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- High School graduate or equivalency certificate and successfully completed and Maintain an EMTI Certification.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum of 6 months experience as a prehospital Emergency Technician EMT in a hospital or Paramedic.
Internal candidates in good standing with EMT License or Paramedic License may be considered without the minimum experience requirement.
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB) within 90 days of hire or notification of requirement
- EMT certification required and maintain;
- Basic EKG certification preferred and will train to the point of competency; Point of Care testing ability preferred and will train to the point of competency.
