JOB DESCRIPTION
- Under the direction of a principal assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment
- Assist teachers with the preparation of instructional materials and other activities
- Assist students in assigned subject areas and with classroom management
- Attend to the physical health needs of students
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education training and/or experience equivalent to
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Associate of Arts degree or higher or greater than 48 college units or a passing score on a test (CBEST ParaPro or CODESP)
Please note that selected candidates will be assigned based on program needs. Selected candidates are expected to commit to the program for the duration of the assignment. Offer and continuation of employment is dependent upon level of student enrollment and attendance. Notice of employment will be sent to the selected candidates. Per SEIU contract article 49 Individual unit members may not work three summers in a row. This rule shall not apply a) if there are more positions than applications for the posting being filled or b) for attendance clerks at the secondary level.
Please note:
- We are looking for Aides with early childhood/special education experience
- Class will be taught by a Kinder/TK teacher and an aide.
Summer Kinder/TK Bridge Aide
Position purpose: To assist the Summer Kinder TK bridge class as well as partner with families (virtually/in person) to support school readiness and as smooth transitioning into elementary school in the fall.
Who were looking for:
- An educator excited to support young childrens learning in development and culturally responsive ways. The ideal candidate is versed in family engagement practices and/or enthused to learn.
- An educator with experience in early learning/special education.
- An enthusiastic family partner who will foster meaningful collaboration with family members/caretakers through virtual home visits.
- An educator well versed in playbased teaching strategies and trauma informed practices.
Responsibilities:
Instruction delivery student engagement and feedback
- Support a positive child centric environment that motivates and supports student learning and social emotional development.
- Assist in daily instruction responsibilities and connect students/families with resources (class of 16 young scholars).
- In partnership with the teacher conduct home visits with families.
- Weekly checkin with Kindergarten Readiness Manager
Build partnerships with family members
- Connect with family members and build relationships (home visits).
- Assist in family orientation prior to programming.
- Support family conference at the end of the program for each child 510 min).
- Celebrate success with early learners and families at the end of the program.
Preparing for the program/coaching support
- Attend two three hour training sessions in May
- Take part in weekly checkins with the Kindergarten Readiness team.
Time Commitment
- The SKB position is approximately a 105hour commitment. This includes:
- 4 week 4 hour program 1 hr of daily prep
- 5 hr prep day
- 6 hours of pre programming PD
- Up to 16 hours virtual home visits
- 1 hour virtual family orientation/Ready Week
