Job Description

NEEDED: LCSW / LPC

LOCATION:Situated within a drive of 15 to 20 minutes to Atlanta and HartsfieldJackson Atlanta International Airport.

SCHEDULE: Shift work 40 hours per week and rotating call coverage

WORK SITE: Local office Remote and crisis location(s)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in psychology social work counseling or other behavioral science fields and considerable experience in social services psychological services or behavioral health services; or equivalent of education and experience.
  • Requires Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) designation valid in the State of Georgia
  • Requires the possession of a drivers license valid in the State of Georgia
  • Ability to pass a policeadministered background check.

PROGRAM:The South Fulton Police Department (SFPD) is committed to enhancing public safety and improving responses to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. To achieve this SFPD is establishing a CoResponder Program in collaboration with a licensed mental health clinician. This initiative aims to integrate behavioral health expertise into emergency response operations ensuring individuals in crisis receive appropriate care while reducing unnecessary arrests hospitalizations and use of force incidents.

The clinician will provide onscene crisis deescalation mental health assessments and referrals to communitybased treatment options reducing strain on law enforcement and emergency medical resources. Additionally the clinician will support the departments Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) by offering training consultation and clinical expertise. CIT officers are specially trained to recognize signs of mental illness and respond effectively but having a mental health professional available for evaluations and immediate intervention will significantly improve outcomes for individuals in crisis.

The South Fulton Police Department consists of over 215 sworn officers supported by a professional staff of 39. The Police Department handles nearly 100000 calls for service a year. During a recent internal study officers dealt with approximately 2025 mental health calls per week. These calls include the following: suicidal ideations suicide attempts and cooccurring mental health issues related to drug abuse.

This partnership will enable SFPD to take a more holistic evidencebased approach to public safety fostering stronger community trust and improved interactions between law enforcement and individuals with mental health concerns.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide onthescene crisis response with a law enforcement officer for citizens experiencing a mental health also be available by phone to triage and consult on crises and critical incidents if applicable. Postcritical incident must provide a debriefing within 72 hours or less upon request of the Incident Commander Chief of Police or their designee if requested.
  • Shall provide comprehensive clinical assessments as part of crisis intervention
  • Identify individual needs and diagnoses substance use and/or mental health disorders
  • Assess individual risk for suicide and other safetyrelated concerns
  • Determine the need for inpatient psychiatric treatment of outpatient services and support
  • Provides referrals to Grady Health or another treatment facility
  • Advises law enforcement officers regarding the potential need for emergency custody for involuntary psychological evaluation.
  • Must assist in crisis followup and treatment coordination with outside treatment providers and other wraparound services.
  • Shall be available to provide training/presentations to officers specific to psychological and behavioral health response with prior notification and schedule permitting.
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure the completion of data reports related to the CoResponder Unit calls for service.
