Job Description

Salary/Position Classification

  • $18.00 hourly NonExempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 10 hours per week
  • 100 Remote Work Availability: No
  • Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No

Purpose of Position

The North Dakota Space Grant Consortium (NDSGC) established the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassador Program to engage North Dakotans in all things STEM and NASA.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • STEM Ambassadors conduct handson activities with North Dakota students families and communities. Their duties can include K12 classroom visits and informal education events (library outreach family nights science festivals girl/boy scout activities etc.. Students must be comfortable securing their own outreach events and confident to visit schools. STEM Ambassadors will work individually with other STEM Ambassadors and with the NDSGC team depending on the type of community engagement event.
  • STEM Ambassadors can also staff the reception desk of the NDSGC offices assist with educator workshops schedules NDSGC social media posts and develop K12 lesson plans.
  • STEM Ambassadors must visit the UND campus and attend a training session at the start of the fall semester. All majors are welcome to apply!
  • Ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per pay period 2weeks) or commit to 3 outreach events per month (whichever is preferable for the candidates schedule).
  • STEM Outreach and Education: Act as a positive role model and advocate for STEM subjects encouraging students to explore STEM fields through school visits workshops and interactive learning experiences. Develop and deliver engaging STEM presentations activities and handson demonstrations to various audiences making STEM topics accessible and STEM outreach events such as school visits handson workshops career days and STEM career fairs and local community events. Create and share STEMrelated content (e.g. videos blog posts social media updates) to inspire and engage a broader audience. Use social media platforms to engage students parents educators and the public in discussions about STEM topics and careers. Administrative Support: Assist with event logistics scheduling and coordination for STEM outreach activities. Maintain accurate records of outreach events attendance and participant feedback. Report regularly to the North Dakota Space Grant leadership on outreach outcomes key insights and areas for improvement. Collaborate with the NDSGC team to develop promotional materials for STEM events outreach programs and initiatives.

Required Competencies

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse groups (students faculty and community members).
  • Motivated reliable and responsible with a strong sense of initiative and dedication to the role.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude towards collaboration and outreach.
  • Flexible and willing to participate in outreach events or activities during weekdays evenings or weekends as required.
  • Interest in STEM education or community engagement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Be enrolled at an NDSGC affiliate institution in good academic standing for both Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.
  • Must be a college sophomore junior senior or graduate student actively enrolled in classes for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 academic terms.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in community outreach event planning or volunteer work is a plus but not required.
