The surface properties of a cylinder bore and piston ring are crucial to engine performance. Production outcome and experimental surface treatments are today validated on product. Robust standalone evaluation methods are required for continued development of Husqvarna engines.
The objective
Develop and evaluate a standalone test method consisting of test rig and mathematical analysis to assess tribological properties of different cylinder and piston ring combinations.
Proper area of education
Bachelor or Master in Mechanical Engineering Material Science or Calculation and Simulation.
The thesis will include work such as
Evaluate the tribological parameters of a cylinder bore through literature studies.
Develop a test method where cylinder bore and piston ring are interacting at operational conditions.
Develop a mathematical method to analyze the outcome.
