The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This is a SPECIAL APPOINTMENT position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES

To instruct a designed curriculum within the assigned Field Training Officer (FTO) program in order to ensure compliance with standards established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC). The incumbent will also work on special training projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Correctional Training. This position will serve as a backup for the online preservice training for new recruits. This position requires that an individual be able to multitask and consistently meet strict deadlines.

Serves to primarily assist the Statewide Field Training Managerthrough instruction of the FTO Program communication with fieldFTO supervisors coordination of training schedule policy review andtracking of training.

Serves as an instructor in the CTU (academy inservice etc. and onspecial training projects when needed as instructed by the AssistantDirector.

Serves as the primary backup for the distribution tracking andmonitoring of the online preservice training for newlyhiredDepartmental employees.

Attends participates and contributes in meaningful ways to regularongoing meetings with Field Training Supervisors by providingfeedback and suggestions.

Data collection and reporting: The incumbent shall collect andcollapse into a reporting document all pertinent statistical data andcomplete projects as assigned by Statewide Field Training Manager.

Perform other duties as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:Two years of administrative staff or professional work in a correctional setting or for a public safety agency andone year of experience planning developing teaching and implementing continuing education programming.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.

The selected candidate must possess a valid Academic Instructor Certification under COMAR 12.04.04 or 12.10.06 ormust be able to achieve such certification within six months of beginning employment.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Intermediate or Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint experience.

Intermediate or Advanced Microsoft Word experience.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.
