Job Description

A Fourth Year Chief Medical Resident position at our academic internal medicine program offers a unique opportunity for fourthyear residents to refine their clinical expertise and cultivate strong leadership skills within a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment.

Our program boasts a diverse patient population providing unparalleled exposure to the full spectrum of internal medicine. Residents gain invaluable experience in advanced clinical training leadership development and cuttingedge research.

The Fourth Year Chief Medical Resident (CMR4 plays a vital role in the success of our program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

EDUCATION:

  • Academic Half Day (AHD): CMR4s will oversee curriculum development for AHD. CMRs work closely with faculty in leading coordination of sessions including Grand Rounds resident journal club core curriculum conferences morbidity and mortality conferences and inviting speakers. CMR4s will also work with CMR3s to address any attendance issues with residents.
  • Case Conferences: CMR4s will also work with third year chiefs and program leadership to build recurring interactive case conferences at both clinical sites (the VA and Renown). These morning reportstyle cases will focus on cultivating diagnostic decisionmaking skills and will be moderated by faculty. CMR4 will lead case content selection is responsible for scheduling and recruiting faculty discussants will attend all case conferences and will enforce mandatory attendance at the conferences.
  • Intern Morning Report: Offer support and assistance to the thirdyear chief residents in design and implementation of a series of core internal medicine topics presented to the interns during the first four months of the academic year.
  • Monthly miniexams: in coordination with associate program director(s) develop and administer monthly miniexams to the residents. The CMR4 will also in coordination with faculty track resident progress and performance on these exams.
  • On an ongoing basis monitor resident professionalism and clinical performance via evaluations and other feedback mechanisms to identify any resident in need of additional support.
  • Mentor residents in need of additional support and assist in developing and implementing performance improvement plans.

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS:

  • CMR4s will ensure fair distribution and sufficient coverage for all clinical rotations for entire academic year and arbitrate resident schedule changes or amendments in conjunction with program director and program coordinator(s).
  • CMR4s will advise house staff assist in problem solving and arbitrate any disputes involving house staff.
  • CMR4s will provide monthly updates to program leadership regarding resident engagement with and progress through MKSAP.
  • CMR4 will also perform other administrative duties not specifically described herein.

CLINICAL DUTIES:

  • CMR4s must complete a total of six weeks of inpatient wards and a consistent one halfday of outpatient clinic at both clinical sites. The schedule is broken down as the following:

For one half of the academic year: Three weeks of inpatient wards at Renown Regional Medical Center (RRMC) along with one halfday per week at the University Health Plumas Street Clinic. For the other half of academic year: Three weeks of inpatient wards at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Sierra Nevada Hospital (which may comprise up to two weeks of night shifts) along with one halfday per week at the VA Primary Care Clinics.

  • Inpatient weeks may be done in 1 or 2week blocks.
  • CMR4s will also intermittently be on backup for clinic coverage and can be called in to cover clinic no more than twice a month.
  • Clinical duties will be scheduled to allow for time for fellowship interviews and board exams.

RECRUITMENT AND OUTREACH:

  • CMR4s will actively participate in recruiting the new intern class. This will include serving as a faculty interviewer program ambassador social media manager and panel discussant.
  • CMR4s as part of program leadership also serve as representatives and liaisons of the residency program to our clinical and community partners.

Required Qualifications

M.D. D.O. or equivalent degree.

Must have completedanACGMEapprovedInternal Medicine Residency Program prior to the start date and have active boardeligibility or boardcertification in Internal Medicine.

Applicants for this position will demonstrate excellence in patient care and strong teaching skills.

Must be eligible for unrestricted Nevada medical license DEA Certification for prescribing and malpractice insurance coverage.

Must meet any further credentialing requirements of the affiliate sites.

Must be prepared to start July 1 2025. If accepted for the position and if possible will coordinate with your current program to allow you to complete a chief elective rotation at the conclusion of theacademic year
