Washington Corrections Center
Internal DOC Only Full Time Permanent
The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking highly motivated and talented individual for the position of a Corrections Specialist 2 for the Resolutions Program at the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) in Shelton Washington.The Washington Corrections Center is a Reception and Diagnostic Center. The facility is a closecustody facility with the primary responsibility to process test and classify all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has seven living units and houses 1700 incarcerated individuals. There are about 500 incarcerated individuals screened and assessed each month. WCC is also the major hub for transfer of incarcerated individuals to and from facilities throughout the state.

Duties
The Corrections Specialist 2 is responsible for overseeing coordinating directing and implementing all aspects of the Statewide Resolution Program as mandated by DOC Resolution Policy 550.100 and the Statewide Program Manager. This includes directing the Resolution peer support mentors program throughout multiple levels of confinements within a facility. The following duties include but are not limited to:
- Order and distribute Resolution Requests as needed to all living units ensuring duplicate forms are always available to the incarcerated population.
- Gather and review all Resolution Requests per policy 2xs per week) from the facility resolution boxes based on the Resolution Program Manual and Policy requirements.
- Ensure appropriate processing of Resolution Requests
- Attempt early Resolutions at a level 0 by meeting with the incarcerated individual when possible to open the lines of communication and to show good faith in resolving concerns at the lowest level possible. Assign reviews to appropriate staff or subject matter experts.
- Interview incarcerated individuals staff witnesses and others during reviews and/or aid the assigned staff in the review process.
- Analyze completed reviews and formulate appropriate responses for Levels 0 1 & 2.
- Ensure resolution documents are free from spelling/grammatical errors.
- Analyze Resolution data for review of trends within your facility. Track active reviews at Levels 1 and 2 ensuring administrative responses are timely.
- Provide timeline extensions and documentation when needed send reminders to staff as necessary for updates on their review process.
- Send all Health Services Rewrite/Not Accepted requests to the Resolution Program Manager for written approval.
- Process/review all possible staff conduct allegations and forward information to the Superintendent/Designee for determination and track the outcome.
- Ensure all documents are typed/transcribed appropriately for Level 1 2 & 3 Resolution Request and reviews.
- Monitor and respond to incarcerated individuals KIOSK (Electronic) Messages Kites letters etc.
- Monitor/Respond to personal and Resolution email boxes.
- Where available maintain your local Peer Support Program and supervise the incarcerated workers performing this duty.
- Responsible for providing the incarcerated population with relevant documentation and information concerning the Resolution Program.
- Distribute appropriate documents to incarcerated individuals (i.e. forwarding copies to transfer facilities applying response to requested remedy/outcome and forwarding to the local individuals at your facility).
- Ensure the processing of Emergency Resolutions Request per the RPM.
- Follow the Federal PREA policy and transfer of information.
- Maintain confidentiality of the Resolution Program at all times.
- Aid the facility in incarcerated individuals receiving center/orientation for introduction to the Resolution Program and answer questions when appropriate.
- Ensure timely unbiased and professional interviews are conducted of staff and incarcerated individuals.
- Ensure the Resolution Program Manual is readily available to the individuals and directions on usage are clear and helpful.
- Confirm research and a thorough review of the issue is accomplished at all levels for appropriate and accurate administrative response/remedy.
- Maintain/provide/post the appeal tool resource for the incarcerated population to utilize and address their concerns promptly outside of our resolution program.
- Provide onsite consultation and technical assistance to management and/or identified staff regarding the implementation of the Resolution Program.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
AND
Three 3 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in a correctional setting correctional operations environment or office setting.
Desired Qualifications:
Completion of a Bachelors Masters or doctoral degree in the areas of Social Sciences Criminal Justice Justice Administration or Public Administration or closely related field. The degree must be from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or a foreign equivalent.Supplemental Information
