The Department of Theater at Mason Gross School of the Arts Rutgers UniversityNew Brunswick invites applications for tenuretrack faculty Assistant Professor of Acting with an anticipated start of September 1 2025. Leveraging its geographic placement between New York City and Philadelphia the Theater Department has an established history as a premiere school for Meisner training in the Acting program with such notable alumni in theatre (Roger Bart Midori Frances Tom Pelphrey); in film (Sebastian Stan Kevin Chamberlin); and television (Calista Flockhart Mike Colter Kristin Davis). For the successful candidate teaching proficiency as an acting coach with range and versatility in engaging with diverse worldviews and textual forms in a variety of styles is important. As a contributing part of the community this faculty member should be committed to the artistic process as fundamentally collaborative in nature engaging in flexible and creative partnerships with students and colleagues sharing in the programs commitment to supporting new work and the exploration of new ways of working. The ability to engage with identityconscious culturally sensitive and inclusive teaching strategies is a must as is an understanding of the changing needs of the 21stcentury actor in an evolving professional and global landscape. The position will primarily teach classes in Acting (including auditioning techniques and oncamera work). They will also be involved in recruiting advising and mentoring students as well as giving coaching support for productions. The Assistant Professor of Acting is encouraged to continue a professional career and/or scholarly research while providing ongoing service to the department and university. The individual chosen for this position is expected to uphold the Mason Gross core values of inclusive excellence collaboration and community engagement. To successfully fulfill this role the applicant should have extensive experience and/or certifications in formal training and a welldeveloped approach to Acting and to a range of techniques that may include (but are not exclusive to): Meisner Spolin Adler and Hagan Black acting methods.
