Summary
The Forensic Science Program at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a fulltime ninemonth facultyposition that will be filled at an Assistant (tenuretrack) or Associate Professor (tenured) level depending upon with demonstrated forensic sciencerelated research experience and a record of external funding in forensic science are encouraged to apply. Area of research is open to include forensic sciencerelated projects. Start date: 8/11/2025.
Information about the Program and the College
The Forensic Science Program is administratively located within the Department of Chemistry and draws from faculty in Chemistry and the Department of Biological Sciences both in the College of Arts and vision for our College aligned with the universitys strategic plan is to ensure that our students graduate careerready to meet the worlds challenges and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching scholarly/creative work and/or service toward achieving inclusive excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success providing resources and support within the Deans Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools leadership teams in other colleges and universityserving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Through these connections we have developed a comprehensive cohortbased mentorship program to support the professional growth and advancement of faculty across all disciplines and ranks. The Forensic Science Program at BGSU is unique in that there is an Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) crime laboratory and investigation facility on the BGSU campus as well as a partnership between BCI and BGSU through the Center for the Future of Forensic Science. This partnership enables BGSU to create and provide the precise curricula and handson experience that todays forensic science and criminal investigation employers expect of prospective job candidates.
The Center for the Future of Forensic Science supports research leading to the development of new methods for processing and analyzing evidence refining our understanding of the neurochemistry and toxicities associated with substances of abuse and so much more. These efforts in teaching and research place the State of Ohio at the forefront of forensic science. The Center is dedicated to assisting BGSU and BCI in obtaining its mission to foster innovative forensic scientific research and to create training opportunities for forensic science professionals and students in forensic sciencerelated fields.
Because of the steady strong enrollment numbers in forensic science and its recent accreditation by FEPAC steps are underway for the program to become a standalone academic department.

- Teach a variety of courses effectively at the undergraduate and graduate level in forensic science and related fields (e.g. Biology Chemistry Toxicology Pharmacology)
- Supervise masters student research; advise undergraduate students
- Secure external funding to support research
- Engage students in research that leads to publications in peerreviewed journals
- Participate in service at the Program College and University level
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in a field related to forensic science (e.g. biology chemistry toxicology pharmacology molecular biology). ABDs will be considered if the requirements for the degree will be completed by August 2025
- Demonstrated record of research productivity in forensic science (e.g. publications in peerreviewed journals appropriate for the field of research external funding to support research etc..
- Experience teaching forensically relevant coursework at the college level as a course instructor teaching assistant guest lecturer or practicum instructor
- Applicants for a tenured Associate Professor position need to meet the criteria for tenure and rank at BGSU as stated in the Department of Chemistrys tenure and promotion policy (see or the Department of Biological Sciences tenure and promotion policy (see .
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience working in a forensic science laboratory
- Experience as an expert witness in legal proceedings
- Affiliation with forensic science related professional organizations
