WymanGordon creates rotating closeddie forgings which are critical for aerospace and landbased gas turbines. WymanGordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe nuclear petrochemical power generation and space applications.
Location Profile:
Located in Ontario CA Summit Machine LLC specializes in the rough and finish machining of super alloys for the aerospace commercial defense power and petroleum industries. Complex components include nickel base titanium stainless steel aluminum and carbon steels with parts ranging in size from 2 OD 120 OD.
Position Summary:
The Level 1 Machinist operates 25 axis CNC lathe machines which requires machine setup including preparing and setting up fixtures and cutting tools loading and adjusting CNC programs and offsets performing inspections and basic preventative machine maintenance such as coolant and lube levels and area cleanliness. Competencies include the ability to use more advanced quality inspection tools and techniques. Must be able to read prints and have experience with common CNC G and M codes.
This position is designed to support 3rd shift operations 8:15pm 4:45am Sun Th) however the selected individual will train on 1st shift from 4:15am 12:45pm M F for approximately 3 months or until able to demonstrate an ability to perform the job with minimal intervention. Shift differential will apply upon schedule change to 3rd shift support.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
Reads blueprints sketches drawings manuals specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece sequence of operations and setup requirements
Measures marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining
Selects aligns and secures holding fixtures cutting tools attachments accessories and materials on machines
Uses overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed feed coolant flow and depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve input and write or edit computerized machine control media
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or outoftolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
Works with others to help troubleshoot machine issues
Maintains specifications by observing drilling grooving and cutting including turning facing knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions irregularities and continuing needs.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Machinist related cross training such as but not limited to Operating lather deburr & edgebreaking
Maintain part protection (part handling and chip clearing)
Start and Stop the program correctly
Maintains productivity & quality by but not limited to meeting production goals reading and filling out checks sheets and inspection reports filling out Productions Incident Reports (PIR) filling out In Process Inspection Reports (IPIR).

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form
Familiarity with all tools and equipment in a machine shop including Micrometers drill press tool grinders power saws belt sanders various measuring tools shovel broom tape readers and punches etc.
Experience & Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
No experience required for entrylevel however must be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn and retain information.
Experience in manufacturing preferred.
