Job Description

There is one Parttime permanent Bus Driver Retirement Living Community position available starting on April 292025 working 22.5 hours per week.


Your Role:
Safely operates an accessible bus to support residents with transportation to appointments activities shopping and other outings. Welcomes residents and assists them with securing their bags walkers and wheelchairs prior to travel. Logs passenger pickup and drop off information to ensure their safety and security. Communicates with residents regarding Village bus schedules engages positively with passengers and delivers excellent customer service. Ensures a clean and safe operation of the vehicle. Works intentionally from an antiracist antioppressive perspective to further create a sense of belonging at the Village.

Tasks:
Safe Transportation:

1. Safely transports residents to and from individual and group outings.
2. Adheres to all traffic rules regulations and safety standards to ensure passenger safety; Reports any violations to the supervisor as required.
3. Performs regular inspections of the vehicle before and after use following an inspection checklist.
4. Monitors maintenance schedule and reports mechanical issues and maintenance needs to the supervisor.
5. Drives vehicle to mechanic for repairs and maintenance as approved by the supervisor.
6. Use accessibility equipment properly when needed to safely onboard and offboard passengers.
7. Ensures there is sufficient fuel in the vehicle filling it when needed.
8. Plans efficient routes and adjust travel as needed due to traffic road conditions construction etc.

Customer Service:

9. Communicates with residents and supervises onboarding and offboarding to ensure a safe and efficient process; Directs residents to use handrails exercise caution when using stairs and moving through the vehicle.
10. Maintains vehicle log and accurately records passenger usage as required.
11. Secures passenger bags and mobility aids (canes walkers or wheelchairs).
12. Communicates with passengers and staff about any changes or delays to transportation schedule.
13. Coordinates with the customer service team to build an efficient schedule for private resident appointments.
14. Ensures comfortable temperatures are maintained within the vehicle asking passengers for feedback as required.

Health and Safety:

15. Informs supervisor of any concerns related to passengers and their health and wellbeing.
16. Follows policies and contacts emergency services if a resident requires urgent medical care; Reports any incidences to supervisor immediately.
17. Maintains cleanliness of vehicle through regular exterior and interior cleaning and sanitization.

Your Talents and Experience:
Possesses a valid B drivers license and a current clean drivers abstract and a minimum of 3 years bus driving experience. Completion of Accessibility for All Training under the Canadian Transportation Agency is preferred. Experience working with seniors or similar role is an asset. Must have strong communication skills and be safety conscious reliable and punctual. Ability to lift mobility equipment up to 50 pounds. Passionate aware and willing to learn about antiracism antioppression and equity. Leads with curiosity and holds space for continuous learning growth and development. Possesses good judgement and demonstrates patience empathy good listening skills and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of seniors.
