The Childrens Advocacy Center of Bristol County a program of JRIcoordinates the investigative response for all child sexual abuse physical abuse CSECand witness to violence reports in the County. Children come to our center for a Forensic Interview where they sharethe details of their abuse while investigative team andfamiliescan experience a wide variety of emotions on the day of their visit so we never usea onesizefits all staffmeetswith parents/caregivers identifying service and treatment needs and makingreferrals for connected and involved with the family for as long as they need the the CAC has HARP(theHealing & Resiliency Program)which provides trauma informed clinical services to children and families.
Internship could follow a few different paths:
The HARP program accepts oneMasters level intern 2ndyear placements)per schoolyearto workin a clinical capacitywith children and familiesaffectedby provide individual family and group treatment. Interns will gain experienceincompleting comprehensive assessments developingclinicalformulations writingtreatment plans and facilitating clinical measures to children and parents.
Inadditionwe also acceptBachelors level or Masters level studentsfor internships thathave the opportunity to experience a nonclinical placement at our CAC. This experience covers a variety of experiences including working directly with parents/caregivers on the day of their childs Forensic Interview. Interns have the opportunity to assess child and family needs provide support and make necessary referrals for community services. In thisrole theyworkcloselywith the multidisciplinaryteamresponsible for investigating the report of abuse.
Additionallyallinterns have the opportunity to engagein activities headed by ourEducationandOutreachPrevention Coordinator. These activities typically take place in the community and includeattending tabling events prevention fairs trainings andotheroutreach events.
