Up to 3 temporary fulltime positions for 4 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in a forestry biological sciences agriculture life & environmental sciences or equivalent postsecondary diploma or degree program commencing in May 2025

Reporting into the Natural Area Operations team this position will complete field technical inspections of natural areas and their flora and fauna. The primary role will be to collect inventory data and complete surveys of the Citys natural areas. You will succeed in this role if you enjoy working outdoors are a quick learner have excellent time management organization and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities Include:
- Monitor and collect data for the Citys natural areas
- Conduct wildlife sweeps; largely sweeps for bird nesting activity
- Conduct tree/plant surveys surveys soil assessments and trail assessments
- Compile field notes update spreadsheets and create maps
- Use GPS and field maps to collect data
- Communicate results in verbal and written reports
- Support Wildlife Technicians and Natural Area Urban Foresters as required
- Ensure that all regulations policies and procedures are followed when doing field work
- Help respond to 311 inquiries regarding natural areas
- Travel between various locations as required
- Other related duties as required
- Currently enrolled in a forestry biological sciences agriculture life & environmental sciences or equivalent postsecondary diploma or degree program
- Experience using Google Workspace applications or equivalent applications
Assets:
- Experience identifying plants animals and legislated weeds
- Experience with plant and wildlife ecology
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Class 5 License
