Position Summary

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River Colleges student body is made up of approximately 41 Academic Transfer students 34 ProfessionalTechnical 15 Adult Basic Education 3 Applied bachelors degrees. Green River College has four campuses including the main campus in Auburn with satellite campuses in Kent downtown Auburn and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college) those seeking retraining for the workforce international students students learning English and Continuing Education students. Green Rivers service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse comprising African Americans African immigrants Asian Americans Asians Latinx Native Americans Pacific Islanders and Middle Eastern Americans among other communities.

The Camp Counselor will perform a variety of tasks in a college camp setting which may include leading activities supporting instructors transporting kids around campus and by van in certain settings. Camp counselors will provide behavior intervention support and oversee lunches and recreational time as well as ensure a fun and safe learning environment for campers. Camps will be offered Monday through Friday from 9:004:00p.m. and there is a mandatory paid training from June 26 27 30 & July 1.

Position Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises up to 10 campers between the ages of 818 and ensures their safety and general wellbeing.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the schedule for camp participants.
  • Plans and leads activities during recreational time with fellow camp staff.
  • Enforces camp rules and regulations and ensures safety in all settings.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports logbook documentation and daily attendance.
  • Cleaning maintaining and ensuring proper use of facilities and equipment.
  • Records and tracks campers dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that the meals/snacks are distributed to them.
  • Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
  • Assists instructor during core learning times to help campers with ageappropriate activities.
  • Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Please note while participation for the duration of summer camps is not required it is strongly encouraged if your schedule permits.
  • Willingness and ability to drive a 12passenger van

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to maintain a high level of leadership among varied age groups.
  • Able to provide a patient and caring environment for campers.
  • Ability to learn and enforce the camps safety and operating rules.
  • Able to stay organized in a dynamic work environment.
  • Mediation skills
  • High level of responsibility and accountability
  • Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the summer season.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Must pass reference checks and background screenings which include fingerprint check and sex offender registry check.
  • Clean driving record (required)
  • Valid Drivers license (required)
  • 2 Years Driving experience (required)
  • CPR/ First Aid certification additional health and safety training a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to be on your feet for extended periods including walking trails and inside classrooms.
  • Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to spend time outdoors.
