Job Description
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:Parttime 9month position
PRIMARY DUTY:Horace Mann Laboratory School is seeking applications for a Parttime Art Teacher for K6 grades to provide instruction and support for creative and artistic expression through various forms of skills and techniques to develop an appreciation of art and to discover and develop the talents of children.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead art instruction through engaging childcentered choicebased art projects
- Provide instruction by which children develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation of art
- Provide a nurturing childcentered art experience for children grades K6
- Document and publicly display childrens learning
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide integrated projectbased learning experiences
- Supervise and provide developmentallyappropriate feedback to University students observing through their art practicum experience
- Coordinate the ordering organization and care of art materials equipment and tools
- Host annual/semesterly Horace Mann Art Show and Exhibits highlighting childrens art pieces
- Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations
- Assist with university and program accreditation (HLC CAEP DESE and/or other)
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelors degree in Elementary Education or Art Education from a regionally accredited University or College
Certification/License: Licensed State Certificate (or the ability to obtain certificate in a timely manner)
Experience: Three years of effective art instruction or related experienceWORKING CONDITIONS:Collaborative teambased academic environment in a Universitybased laboratory school
INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL:Willing to acquire and maintain a valid passport to participate in international study trips for faculty staff and students
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervises Teacher Education candidates participating in practicum clinical experiences
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to complete essential classroom/administrative functions; ability to lift up to 20 pounds
