Essential Job Functions:
Area Specific Job Accountabilities:
- Operates building HVAC equipment including auxiliary equipment ensuring a properly controlled climate. Maintains proper water chemistries Testing and analyzing water samples to maintain water treatment programs within specification. Utilizes computerized building automation along with manual valves and controls to operate systems safely and efficiently.
- Inspects all mechanical room systems and equipment on daily rounds taking readings and identifying potential issues if noted.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on the mechanical HVAC production and distribution systems lighting and life safety systems. Maintains inspection and testing records.
- Documents inspection and testing data to maintain accurate records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Following manufacturers and regulatory requirements assists manager in the review of building system and nonclinical equipment and recommended maintenance procedures and scheduling.
- Coordinates maintenance with outside vendors assuring all work is done to Lurie Childrens Hospital standards. Assists Manager in maintaining inspection and testing records of vendor maintenance.
- On a rotating basis responds to inhouse service calls and work requests.
- Responds to building emergency and equipment malfunction events. Assesses situation and takes action to stabilize situation to minimize damage and maintain safety. Documents such events in appropriate logs and/or the CMMS.
- Using diagrams sketches blueprints operations manuals and manufacturer specifications assembles and installs new nonclinical equipment.
- Provides feedback to manager regarding proposed construction and important elements that should or should not be included.
- Investigates building service or equipment outages initiates building service or equipment shutdowns and reactivations. Participates in overseeing the installation of building services and equipment by outside contractors and records deficiencies on punch lists. Participates in system and equipment startup and commissioning.
- Facilities engineers are expected to have knowledge on the inner workings of pumps medical gas systems domestic water systems plumbing systems nurse call systems hospital beds generators fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems.
- Facilities engineer is expected to: Replace lamps ballast water closets urinals faucets flush meters valves ceiling tiles floor tiles.
- Facilities engineers are responsible to respond to in house service calls i.e clogged toilets hot/cold calls exit lights plumbing leaks.
- Utilizes and maintains tools and instruments associated with the building maintenance trade.
- Identify and specify parts/supplies acquire quotes and generate supply requisitions to managers.
- The position actively supports the hospital mission and goal objectives the department quality improvement and operating goals as well as customer service excellence principles goals individually and as a member of the Facility Services team.
- Maintain outside property grounds which include but not limited to landscaping and snow removal.
- Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or the equivalent with coursework in science mathematics shop and reading blueprint and equipment schematics is required.
- A minimum of 3 years as a Facilities Engineer or equivalent. Experience in a health care or comparable institution is preferred.
- Maintains a valid drivers license and safe driving record. Submits to and provides required information to allow for annual verification of drivers license status.
- Working knowledge of building and life safety codes in healthcare settings required.
- Must be able to climb ladders proficiently and work comfortably from a high lift while performing work at elevations.
- Knowledge of and practices personal safety hospital infection control and life safety procedures required. Utilizes personal protection equipment including: eyewear footwear respiratory and hearing protective devices.
- Med Gas 6040 certification preferred.
- CFC License preferred.
- Stationary Engineers License preferred.

Pay Range
$34.00$55.59 Hourly
