POSITION: Childcare Teacher (Infant)
LOCATION: Worcester Technical High School Childcare Center
GENERAL JOB DECRIPTION:
Childcare teachers perform all duties necessary to ensure that childrens basic needs are taken care of cultivate a safe and educational environment for young children to grow and learn utilize prescribed curriculum as trained identify and address behavioral problems maintain progress reports and communicate with parents effectively.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Ensure a safe happy stimulating and sanitary environment for children.
- Follow all rules regulations and policies of COMAR.
- Provide basic care for children which includes feeding grooming and changing diapers.
- Develop ageappropriate socialization skills in children.
- Encourage positive behavior and good manners.
- Use various learning methods such as stories games and drawing to intellectually stimulate children.
- Identify behavioral problems and develop appropriate strategies to address them.
- Attend staff meetings conferences and workshops.
- Hold regular parent/teacher meetings to address any issues concerns or parent complaints.
- Maintain open consistent and effective communication with parents.
- Observe and assist youth apprentices in their roles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must meet minimum requirements for Infant/Toddler Teacher as defined by the MSDE Office of Child Care including:
- Completion of 3 semester hours of approved training (or the equivalent) related to the care of infants and toddlers OR
- Completion of 6 semester hours of approved training (or the equivalent) exclusively related to the care of infants and toddlers.
- Completion of 3 clock hours of approved training in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Approved training in supporting breastfeeding practices.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a licensed childcare program.
- Childcare professional certification is advantageous.
- Proven experience working as a childcare teacher.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred.
- Must meet minimum requirements for Preschool Teacher as defined by MSDE Office of Childcare.
- Indepth understanding of childhood development.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Accepts and respects differences in children families and coworkers.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attentive and patient.
- Friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Maintain a professional appearance attitude and work ethic always.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to bend stoop stand and lift 2550 lbs. daily
DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:
This is an hourly contractual position working 12months with healthcare benefits and accrued sick leave. Hourly pay is $20.00.
