SUMMARY:This position is responsible for providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for developing special education students success in academics interpersonal skills and activities of daily living; collaborating with special education teachers other professional staff administrators and parents in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Job Tasks Descriptions
1. Administers developmental testing programs subject specific assessments etc. to assess student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans. Coordinates state/district assessment accommodations as assigned by building principal to ensure alignment of accommodations in the IEP to the testing formats (e.g. WyTOPP ACT etc..
2. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and students achievements; develops methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
3. Assigns case managers for all special education students to provide services to special education students; schedules facilitates and writes IEPs; works with teachers to ensure services and accommodations are being met.
4. Assesses student progress towards objectives expectations and/or goals (e.g. behavioral motor development/communication skills academic needs vocational abilities etc. to provide feedback to students parents and administration. Instructs students when needed to improve their success in academic interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study. Provides assistance to students to improve performance problem solving techniques and resolving a variety of personal issues.
5. Supports classroom and special education teachers to assist them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans. Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
6. Participates and collaborates with School Psychologist in a variety of meetings (e.g. IEP meetings MDT meetings department meetings staff meetings district meetings disciplinary hearings etc. to convey and/or gather information required to perform job duties. Conducts department meetings to ensure staff are kept up to date concerning any school or special education issues. Collaborates with counselors as needed to evaluate transcripts to assess graduation progress and student vocational goals.
7. Reports incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse suspected substance abuse etc. to maintain personal safety of students provide a positive learning environment and adhere to education code and school policies. Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
8. Creates paraprofessional schedules and teacher schedules to ensure special education students are receiving services detailed in IEPs may collaborate with school administration as needed on this process.
9. Responsible for registering students gathering information from stakeholders and ensuring students are placed in the correct classes and receive the services needed. Registering students includes meeting with each student and their parents/guardians to determine needs collect all registration forms and enter courses into scheduler. Creates and/or evaluates schedules for students to ensure they are placed in the proper classes.
10. Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. schedules for students and teachers staffing reports paraprofessional/teacher schedules MDT and IEP paperwork etc. to document student progress and meet state and federal requirements.
11. Trains and assists department staff to ensure they are familiar with building district state and federal special education processes procedures rules and regulations with administrative support as needed.
12. Manages the special education department budget by creating and submitting a plan purchasing items for the department and creating expense reports to meet the needs of the special education students in the building.
13. Collaborates with counselors administrators graduation coach (through Hope Team) other schools/school districts and/or community support agencies to identify and support struggling and/or returning students. Coordinates with feeder school(s) (elementary to junior high; junior high to high school) to transition students to the next school and determine the correct class placement and services.
14. Participates in workshops training and seminars to gather information required to perform job functions.
