Background
The post holder will primarily work across two projects. The first is a project in collaboration with the charitable organisation School Food Matters the post holder will work with colleagues from School Food Matters to adapt the Nourish programme to secondary school settings. Nourish is a programme aimed at primary schools to improve the school food offer and the environment and approach to food and healthy eating in schools. The second project is to mobilise knowledge and maximise the impact of newly developed good practice guidance for partners delivering the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme or other governmentfunded school holiday programmes. In addition the post holder will contribute to ongoing projects delivered by thePHIRSTPHRESHteam.
Role Summary
- Close collaboration with School Food Matters partners to develop and deliver adaptation project
- Assist in communication and dissemination of the Nourish programme adaptation recommendations
- Work with existing HAF collaborations and networks to produce enhanced good practice guidance for partners delivering school holiday programmes through the development and inclusion of detailed cases studies and the professional production of the guidance
- Organise and help to run knowledge mobilisation events for key partners of the HAF programme and plan tracking activities capture impact after the events
- Contribute to further knowledge mobilisation and impact activities of both projects
- Contribute to data collection and analysis activities relating to PHIRSTPHRESH projects as and when required
- Contribute to departmental teaching and citizenship activities
- Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bids
- Operate within area of specialism
- Analyse and interpret research findings and results
- Contribute to generating funding
- Contribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues asset or company sales IP generated) and/or public understanding of the discipline or similar
Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
- Develop detailed plans for the activities required for both projects over the 6month period
- Develop application for ethical approval
- Conduct a rapid review of published and grey literature
- Deliver online and inperson workshops with a mix of stakeholders
- Work with partners to develop case studies for inclusion in the school holiday programme good practice guidance
- Work with a commercial partner to professionally produce the guidance
- Analyse and interpret data
- Write progress and final reports for both projects
- Disseminate research findings for publication research seminars etc including presenting project outputs to a variety of audiences
- Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research with assistance of a mentor if required
- Contribute to writing bids for research funding
- Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
- Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
- Contribute to developing new models techniques and methods
- Undertake management/administration arising from research
- Contribute to Departmental/School researchrelated activities and researchrelated administration
- Contribute to enterprise business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University often under supervision of a project leader
- Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods such as scientific experimentation literature reviews and research interviews
- Present research outputs including drafting academic publications or parts thereof for example at seminars and as posters
- Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
- Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
- Promote equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture
Person Specification
- First degree in area of specialism and a higher degree (PhD or near to completion) relevant to research area
- Experience in health improvement public health projects that engage a wide range of participants and collaborators
- Experience in developing organising and running inperson and online workshops with a mix of stakeholders participating
- Experience in planning organising and running large knowledge mobilisation events including tracking evidence of impact
- High level analytical capability
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Fluency in relevant models techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
- Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
- Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
- Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
- Coordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
- Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
