Job Description

Description

The Brookdale Criminal Division of Hennepin County District Court is seeking a customer service focused teamoriented Court Operations Associate to contribute to our mission of providing justice to the public. The Brookdale team fosters an inclusive dynamic work environment and promotes equity for all court staff and court customers.

Court Operations Associates work individually and in teams to support a wide variety of court customers and justice partners including community members judges law enforcement officials and attorneys. This role requires excellent communication skills strong attention to detail and technological skills to match our highperformance environment. The ability to practice independent judgment along with resources and team support is also crucial to success. Court Operations Associates rotate assignments daily so each day brings new experiences and opportunities!

The Brookdale Courthouse handles solely misdemeanor criminal and traffic cases for the communities of Brooklyn Center Brooklyn Park Champlin Corcoran Crystal Dayton Golden Valley Greenfield Hanover Maple Grove New Hope Osseo Robbinsdale Rockford Rogers and St. Anthony.

Example of Duties

All Court Operations Associates are expected to do the following in all assignments:

  • Assist and communicate with judicial partners and court customers in a professional courteous and respectful manner to ensure the customers needs are effectively met inperson over the phone or through electronic means
  • Coordinate communicate and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments and case processing are completed efficiently and accurately
  • Collaborate with Judicial Officers Court Reporters Prosecutors Defense Attorneys Probation Officers and Law Enforcement
  • Review and process court filings for timeliness statutory compliance and proper document security as required by local and courtwide policies and procedure

Duties by Assignment

Front Counter

  • Check in court customers for court
  • Process payments (cash credit card and check) for fines bail etc.
  • Schedule Hearing Officer appointments for citations

Administrative Tasks

  • Manage remote hearings held via Zoom. This includes tasks such as admitting court customers to the meeting monitoring the chat managing breakout rooms and directing the order of cases called.

Lobby

  • Perform highlevel case processing and data entry including scheduling hearings
  • Prepare documents for court customers
  • Assist court customers with sameday applications for a public defender
  • Troubleshoot technology issues with public kiosks with court customers when needed

Courtroom Clerking

  • Accurately update calendars and records for highvolume fastpaced courtrooms
  • Manage courtroom audio technology
  • Administer Oaths andswear in court customers

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and one 1 year of relevant job experience OR equivalent amount of posthigh school education and experience totaling one year.
    • Examples of relevant job experience: customer service administrative work office and clerical work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of customer service and/or administrative experience
  • Experience in a legal setting such as a courtroom clerk or paralegal
  • Experience with document imaging indexing and working with cases/documents from electronic workflow queues
  • Detailoriented with the ability to continuously learn and retain new material concepts and ongoing procedural changes
  • Wellorganized and analytical

Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize assignments work well under pressure in a highvolume fastpaced environment and adapt to change
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other jobrelated software
  • Ability to process financial transactions accurately with an eye for detail
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills including patience cultural sensitivity and the ability to deescalate difficult customer interactions
  • Dedication to an inclusive multicultural environment that values collaborating and learning from one another as a team

Supplemental Information

Logistics

The Brookdale team is located inBrooklyn Center Minnesota at 6125 Shingle Creek Pkwy Suite 200 (first floor. The courthouse has free parking available and is located near major freeways making for a convenient commute. This is a primarily in office position with limited remote work opportunities. The core hours for this position are 8:00 am 4:30pm Monday Friday but may vary depending on the assignment and operational needs of the division.

Salary Range

The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $21.00 per hour and may be higher depending on qualifications. This position is nonexempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible forState of Minnesota employee benefits.
