Pay Rate: Specialized CBWS Hourly Rate $18.71/hour). This pay rate aligns with the pay scale for Northfield Public Schools and is subject to an annual wage increase.
IMPORTANT: STUDENTS MUST HAVE A STATE OR FEDERAL WORK AWARD TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMMUNITY BASED WORK STUDY (CBWS) POSITIONS. Student CBWS work eligibility is subject to change due to work award redeterminations over the summer. This means even students who were a chosen applicant for the position may be ineligible to work if they do not have a state/federal work award come Fall 2025. Students who are unsure if they currently have a state or federal work award please contact before applying to find out what type of work award you have.
Description of the Position:
Instructors will arrive 30 minutes prior the party to hang directional signs and set out gym equipment. Instructors will greet family and answer any questions regarding setup etc. Instructors will lead guests down to the gym and/or pool. If party is in the gym instructors will interact directly with participants by leading games acting as an official and encouraging participation. If in the pool the instructor may swim but may also choose to observe activities from the deck. A lifeguard will be onduty. Instructors will also supervise party room activity (opening of gifts eating etc. but are more handsoff during that portion of the party as a parent will step in and lead. Instructors will assist family in picking up at the conclusion of the scheduled party. Instructors will return equipment to storage and put away all directional/party signs.
Occasional Saturdays between 9 am 2:30 pm. These hours are available only when a family requests a party. There are roughly 15 25 party opportunities per year. Parties last between 1.5 3 hours. On any given Saturday there may be one to three parties scheduled. Instructors are not required to work every party but will be added to the call list and contacted about picking up hours if desired when each party is scheduled.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Will set up and put away all equipment and signs for party
- Will supervise party activities
- Will engage with participants during party activities.
- Will oversee child behavior and implement the disciplinary action plan as needed.
- Will communicate as needed with parents/guardians.
- Will show enthusiasm and create fun positive experiences through words actions and nonverbals.
- Will keep track of time worked and record it on timesheets.
- Will openly communicate with the recreation coordinator in a timely manner regarding program issues etc.

- Desire to provide an organized and positive environment.
- Evidence of relationship building with youth.
- Evidence of initiative taking and selfdirecting
