Fitness Assistant
EXEMPT STATUS: NonExempt hourly fulltime30 hours or more per week
REPORTS TO: Community Life Director & Fitness Coordinator
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator and/or the Director of Community Life the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the fitness programs and supervised exercise sessions within the community.
Primary Job Duties:
Implement and coordinate a fitness and wellness program.
Evaluate and assess the needs and physical capabilities of each resident.
Formulate and implement a program of exercise suited to each individual.
Lead a variety of challenging and safe group exercise classes.
Lead exercise programs and monitor individuals as they use exercise equipment.
Conduct assessment initial and ongoing of residents and guide their participation in exercise programs and initiatives.
Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of the fitness equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in exercise physiology kinesiology or health promotion preferred. High school education with experience in geriatrics and fitness.
- One year experience in a fitness or physical therapy program in a licensed health care setting preferred.
- Experience working with the aging population.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English communicate effectively and perform simple arithmetic.
- Must be able to read write and follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to plan and assume a leadership role of fitness and wellness programs.
- Ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing programs.
- Must possess an interest in keeping aging population active.
- Must possess patience and understanding of the aging population.
Salary Range: $18.00/hr $20.00/hr
