Description

This announcement is specific to the Creative Arts Camp. If interested in other camp program areas you must apply directlyto those positions.

TheDepartment of Park & Recreation(DPR)Creative Arts Campis seeking Counselors Camp Directors & Assistant Directorsfor temporary summer employmentto support camp programs by planning and leading a variety of art experiences for children ages 58 & 811 (depending on the camp).

Staff must commit to working from June 30 August 8 (core camp dates). Training will begin in mid to late May through June which includes online courses with virtual and inperson trainings during weekday evenings and a few positions are available and hours vary.



Responsibilities

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT I $15.30/Hour
Assisting with leading recreation activitiescamp program operationsand behavior management of participants.

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT II $16.32/Hour
Assisting with managing recreation activities behavior management of participants and evaluations of the activities.

RECREATION ASSISTANT III $19.10/Hour
Performing supervisory and administrative duties including managing recreation activities and processing participant and program evaluations.

RECREATION ASSISTANT IV$23.00/Hour
Directing summer camp programs developing curriculum and performing administrative duties.



Qualifications

Minimums:

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT I

  • Education:Less than a High School Diploma; plus
  • Experience: No experience required.

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT II

  • Education: Less than a High School Diploma.
  • Experience: Some experience working with youth or administering summer camp/recreation programs.

RECREATION ASSISTANT III

  • Education:High school/GED; plus
  • Experience: Some experienceworking with youth or administering recreation programs.

RECREATION ASSISTANT IV

  • Education:High school/GED; plus
  • Experience: Considerable experience administering recreation programs including some experience leading/supervising recreation programs.
  • Substitution:Completion of some college coursework may substitute for the experience requirement.

Successful candidates will have good character and integrity effective communication skills and reliable transportation including the ability to complete tasks take initiative and work successfully in a team environment.

Desirables:Preference may be given to candidates with experiencein one or more of the following:

  • Working in Summer Camp programs or Arlington Camps;
  • Teaching art and working with children;and/or
  • Experience/willingness to work with individuals with disabilities.

Special Requirements

If selected all summer staff may be required to:

  • Agree to a criminal background check (for applicants 18 years and older).
  • Provide references which may be included in this application.
  • Attend all required trainings wear a uniform and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for a prolonged periods of time during the work shift.
  • Possess a drivers license and complete a successful driving license record check (for applicants 18 years and older).
  • Provide personal care as needed to campers (training provided).
  • Arlington County requires that all employees have a bank account to accept direct payroll deposits.
  • Be CPR and First Aid Certified as of the first day of camp for the Camp Director or other designated positions.

Additional Information

Work Hours: May vary between 3540 hours per week 78 hours a day between the hours of 8am6pm.
