General Responsibilities:The SpeechLanguage Pathologist is responsible for all clinical duties including identification diagnosis and therapy of individuals with communication disorders which are appropriate to the ages and populations served. Additional clinical duties of therapists include management of treatment delivered through direct therapeutic services tracking information and consultative services as New England serves children adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders acquired brain injury neurological diseases and disorders comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The Speech Language Pathologist/Therapist position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or selfinjurious behavior. Students served may have had multiple treatment failures prior to this placement. Speech Language Pathologists/Therapists are expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require Speech Language Pathologists/Therapists to be constantly alert attentive and ready to respond to students staff are expected to adhere to Melmarks Code of Conduct and Standards of Professionalism included in the Employee Handbook. It is the responsibility of each staff member to read and familiarize themselves with the contents of the Employee Handbook and ask questions relative to the application of these standards in the workplace if unclear to the Qualifications:Education/Training:Minimum of a Masters Degree as a SpeechLanguage Therapist from an Educational Services Board Approved (American SpeechLanguageHearing AssociationASHA) approved university program. Experience with augmentative communication and be CCCSLP certified from the ASHA and certified as a SpeechLanguage Pathologist with Massachusetts however CF will be accepted with supervision requirement. A valid US drivers license and a minimum age of twentyone 21 years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR First Aid Crisis Intervention and Melmarks Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training (s)Strong clinical skills in Speech/Language communication with emphasis on special needs people who maybe behaviorally neurobehaviorally and/or developmentally disabled in addition to their communication disabilities. Strong interpersonal skills and/or training in augmentative communication manual communication clinical or practicum background with Developmentally Delayed Emotionally/Behaviorally Disturbed Cognitively Challenged Autism Pervasive Development Disorder and Brain Injured cooperatively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (Nursing Services Vocational Services Clinical Services Residential Staff Allied Health Services) to ensure that each students educational requirements are met.
