Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of students with speech or language disorders and match their needs with programs available through the educational system.
  • Meet with students regularly according to the treatment program schedule evaluate and maintain records of students progress.
  • Report progress to administrators teachers and special education teams and meet with them regularly to discuss their evaluations of students skills in class performance and social interaction.
  • Report progress to guardians and meet with them regularly; suggest activities guardians can do with their child to assist and supplement the students speech therapy program.
  • Repeat evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.
  • Talk with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations they may feel about the therapy.
  • Establish and implement small group management structure and rules that ensure academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students.
  • Ensure safety and security standards for children staff and visitors of the school; supervise all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
  • Maintain required paperwork for individual student files attendance and incident reports and other necessary records.
  • Maintain knowledge of research developments and best practices in speech-language pathology.
  • Recognize and support diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
  • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participative attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrate the achievements and successes of students.
  • Participate in faculty meetings educational conferences in-service opportunities workshops and other training seminars as required.
  • Attend work as scheduled and arrive in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Perform additional related duties within the scope of this position.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a related subject area; appropriate state license or certification; Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement are required.
  • At least two years of speech pathology work experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to ensure that students faculty members and guardians understand the program and the degree of progress being made.
  • Thorough understanding of speech/language development and how it relates to academic instruction.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
