Job Description

Job Title: Migrant Recruiter

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Department: Federal Programs/Migrant

Reports To: Migrant Director

Approved By: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

The migrant recruiter is responsible for identifying recruiting and assisting migrant families that come to the Donna Independent School District.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED

Associates Degree or College Hours preferred.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Texas drivers license

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Fluency in speaking and writing in English and Spanish
  • Ability to relate to children and migrant families
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students peers parents and the community as well as district/campus staff
  • Must own and be able to operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of performing districtwide migrant recruitment duties
  • Use of computer and applicable software
  • Knowledge of the community

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clerical

  1. Collects information on students to determine their eligibility to participate in migrant programs.
  2. Collects and records student demographic information medical history basis skills and other necessary information.
  3. Compiles maintains and files all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required including accurate updated migrant student information records.

Communication

  1. Acts as liaison between home school and community to convey information relative to mutual areas of interest and concerns regarding migrant students.

Compliance

  1. Complies with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and board policy in the area of Title I Migrant programs.
  2. Complies with all district routines and regulations.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  3. Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students staff parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all nits of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop climb kneel crouch or crawl. Light to moderate lifting and carrying is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment will vary from quiet to moderate to loud depending upon the activity being conducted at the different sites visited. The employee works indoors and outdoors and will be exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
