Job Description

TRIO Upward Bound Literature and English NonCredit Trainer (Part Time Temporary)

Hourly Rate: $30

Academic Year Tutoring Academic Saturdays SAT/ACT Prep: 815 hours per week

6 Week Summer Academy: Four days per week for 3 hours 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon)

*This is a temporary grant paid position and is contingent upon grant funding.

**This position requires the PA Child Abuse PA State Police and FBI Fingerprinting clearances.

Location: Blue Bell Campus and Pottstown Campus

The Upward Bound Program is seeking applications from creative energetic and enthusiastic trainers interested in a fixedterm summer teaching opportunity at the Central campus in Blue Bell PA. Upward Bound is a college preparatory program designed to motivate and prepare selected lowincome/first generation high school students for the successful pursuit of a college education.

DESCRIPTION The primary objectives of these positions are to be a mentor tutor & positive role model for high school students with regard to academics morale health safety discipline interpersonal relationships within the group and application to studies. Upward Bound participants are rising 9th 12th grade students who come from a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures with differing abilities and learning styles.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Serve as an assistant to the instructor in the academic classes
  • Attend and monitor students during field trips
  • Provide small group tutoring for students having difficulty with class assignments
  • Present and/or assist with a college exploration seminars
  • Take attendance and report information to the Program Coordinators
  • Provide mentoring to students assigned to your group

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. or B.A. with a strong background in English or Literature; masters degree preferred
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification and two years experience teaching English at the high school level or higher desired
  • Experience in developing a curriculum that addresses the individual needs of students using nontraditional methods
  • Experience teaching low income and/or firstgeneration college students
