A Washougal School District teacher knows nurtures and challenges their students with high expectations a love of learning and a focus on helping every student rise to their highest potential. Effective classroom teachers recognize individual students needs and use multiple strategies to help all students be successful. Effective classroomteachers create collaborative equitable safe and welcoming communities of teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies.

The job of a Secondary CTE Teacher is to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skillsthrough implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and studentprogress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students while providing a safe andoptimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students parents and administration regardingstudent progress expectations goals etc.

Essential Functions

Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State. Standards include:

  • Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professional development
  • Lead and/or participate in CTE Advisory Committee meetings
  • Attend statesponsored required workshops and conferences
  • Articulate classes with postsecondary education when possible
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships
  • Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning
  • Provide opportunities for students to achieve industry certifications
  • Teach district approved course goals and objectives.
  • Evaluations of the individual student and the appropriate reporting of student progress.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and subject matter specified by state law and administrative regulations of the school district.
  • Provide individual and group instruction so that each student can achieve scholastic educational objectives.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process in conformance with the approved district guidelines.
  • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for the instruction of students with wide ranges of mental physical social and emotional maturation.
  • Establish and maintain the standard of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities.
  • Evaluate intellectual and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.
  • Communicate with parents. Hold parent conferences to discuss the individual students progress.
  • Maintain records and submit reports as required or appropriate.
  • Participate in curricular and other developmental programs as required.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Create an effective and interactive classroom environment (both live and digital) for learning.
  • Subscribe to the notion student success is a teachers paramount responsibility.
  • Supervise students in outofclassroom activities during assigned periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: controlling and motivating students; maintaining accurate records; using pertinent software applications; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of subject matter; knowledge of state and federal laws that govern school districts age appropriate activities stages of child development and safety practices and procedures.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather collate and/or classify data; and use basic jobrelated equipment. Flexibility is required to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances; to work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and to operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; to work with similar types of data; and to utilize specific jobrelated equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: must be trained in advanced placement art; fostering positive relationships; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; to use sound judgement when working with students directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organizations services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 10 sitting 50 walking and 40 standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience with high school students preferred
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the field of Health Sciences with specific teaching experience in Medical Career/Sports Medicine.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with Athletic Trainers and other Health Professionals


Education: Bachelors degree or Work Experience per RCW

Certificated & License Requirements

  • Must hold or be able to a valid Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate in Health Therapeutic Careers (V510800 or Sports Medicine (V510709 or be eligible for and/or working toward certification in either of those teaching areas.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized provider or willing to get instructor certified
  • Work experience in any of the following: Athletic Trainer Certified Chiropractor Dentist Dental Hygienist Registered Dental Assistant Licensed Practical Nurse Respiratory Care Practitioner Physical or Occupational Therapist Physical or Occupational Therapy Assistant Pharmacist Medical Physician Physicians Assistant Certified Registered Nurse Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
