Job Description

POSITIONSubstitute Paraeducator

LOCATION Varied based on job assignment

SUMMARY

As a substitute Paraeducator and under the direction and supervision of the building principal or designee this position will substitute for regular district staff on an asneeded basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide instructional support in the classroom under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Work with individual students or small/large groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skill initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials for classroom use.
  • Alert the regular teacher to any problem concerning an individual student.
  • Assist students with healthrelated needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Washington State drivers license or evidence of mobility.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
  • I9 for verification of identity and employment eligibility for work in the United State
  • Completion of all districtrequired training within thirty 30 calendar days from the hire date.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess high moral and ethical standards.
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment make independent decisions and take appropriate action while following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Possess adequate health and physical strength necessary in assisting student mobility and relocation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with students.
  • Flexibility to adjust work pace to meet the demands of changing workload.
  • Exhibit a professional attitude at all times and a willingness to work cooperatively with students staff coworkers management and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from the school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl. Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students physical or sanitation/hygiene needs. Specific vision requirements include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to focus. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone to enter data into a computer terminal; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

All substitute positions are on an oncall asneeded basis.

Salary: The substitute rate will be Step 1 for the position on the negotiated PSE salary schedule.

Verification of identity and United States work authorizationmust becompleted before employment commences. The successful candidate for thispositionmust complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
