Fitness Center Coordinator

Responsibilities Include: The YMCA of Sumter is seeking a highly motivated energetic friendly and knowledgeable individual to join the Healthy Living Team. The Fitness Center Coordinator is responsible for the operations of the fitness center: supervising and scheduling fitness center staff monitoring and evaluating the needs of our members providing accurate maintenance records on equipment coordinating and implementing fitness center programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum of High School Diploma required plus a nationally accredited certification in fitness health coaching exercise science etc.

Minimum of 2 years of Health Wellness & Fitness experience in a variety of areas

Supervisory experience preferred

Must have an enthusiastic personality be customer service focused with attention to details

Must be mature decisive analytical and responsible

Must have satisfactory outcome of background check prior to starting employment

Fulltime hourly 40 hours must have flexible schedule to work weekdays weeknights and/or weekends (no remote work)

Salary: Starting pay $12/hr

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development healthy living and social responsibility. The Fitness Center Coordinator at the Sumter Family YMCA intentionally fosters a causecentered culture that is welcoming genuine hopeful nurturing and determined. Responsibilities will include leading and supporting in the operations and performances of all programs staff and fitness center related activities within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • ROSTER (Recruit Orient Supervise Train Evaluate Reward) all fitness center staff
  • Develop Coordinate Implement and Execute fitness center related programs and services ensuring program quality and consistency.
  • Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community.
  • Create monthly floor attendant schedules with minimum 25 hours covered by coordinator weekly varying weekdays weeknights and/or weekends
  • Assess member needs and create programs and services to meet those needs.
  • Confirm payroll activity with weekly schedules to stay within budgeted hours.
  • Maintain service department(s) quality standards ensuring safety cleanliness and properly working equipment to minimize risk to members participants and the association.
  • Assist with Inventory equipment & supplies as applicable and relay needs to director.
  • Supervision maintenance and cleaning of all areas floors and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate communication responses in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
  • Open communication with director regarding fitness center needs changes repairs staff schedule and any other details.
  • Attend all trainings activities and staff meetings
  • Assist with and promote special department programs activities and events to promote member and community involvement i.e.; road races fitness days challenges.
  • Enforce and follow established policies and procedures and execute sound judgment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with staff members and community partners
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.
  • Branch and association responsibilities and/or other duties & activities as assigned by Executive Staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma required plus a nationally accredited certification in fitness health coaching exercise science etc.

  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Must be attentive to details be able to work with and meet deadlines take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for efficient operations.
  • Must have excellent human relation written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently independently with little supervision and as part of a team
  • Organizational time management & Problem/Resolution abilities

  • Attention to detail and follow through in the of all job components in a timely manner.
