TITLE: English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY:
The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher provides English language development instruction to foundational and transitional students in our Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) program. The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher advances the language and literacy competencies of English Learner (EL) students. The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher reports to the principal(s) and the English Language Program Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of WIDA 2020 Standards and levels of English proficiency to employ lessons for students that
build on their linguistic and cultural assets to allow them to build oracy and literacy in English;
2. Sustains systems and routines in the classroom learning environment that exemplify linguistically and culturally sustaining
pedagogy within the SEI model;
3. Advances student progress towards meeting English language proficiency benchmarks by routinely tailoring curriculum and
instruction to student needs based on assessment/data;
4. Routinely collaborates with stakeholders (leadership staff students and families) in two way communication to share
data conclusions and insights about student progress and apply team feedback to support improved student learning;
5. Sustains systems and routines in the classroom learning environment that exemplify linguistically and culturally sustaining
pedagogy within the SEI model;
6. Annually acts as a test administrator for the ACCESS for ELLs state assessment
7. Provide support and upkeep of mandated documentation to include EL eligibility and assessment;
8. Work with the school Principal and K12 EL Program Director to ensure effective and efficient integration of EL specific and
general education resources in efforts to support English learners;
9. Reflects on ones instructional practice and seeks out & engages in ongoing professional learning to strengthen equitable
practice and improve student learning;
10. Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/ABILITY:
1. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to children andadults;
2. Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese preferred;
3. Commitment to remain current with state certification requirements with regards to licensure.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Licensed or eligible for licensure in English as a Second Language at the appropriate level (PreK6 and/or 512 by the
Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education to include Sheltered English Immersion (SEI)
endorsement;
2. Meets all Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher;
3. Bachelors Degree Masters preferred from an accredited college or university in a related field;
SALARY:CLASSIFICATION: BTA Union
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.
Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend sit or stand frequently.
